Madison, NJ (November 15) - The FDU Men's Basketball team was able to defeat Hartwick, 88-82, after a close second half of game play
The Devils were led by Christopher Smith (Florham Park, NJ) who tallied 25 points and 6 rebounds. Jaqwan Washington (Bryan, TX) tallied 14 points, McClellan Creek (Louisville, KY.) and Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ) with 9.
In the first half, the FDU Devils led the opening 3 minutes of game play with a 10-2 run lead with Washington tallying 6 of those points. The Devils continued to out shoot the Hartwick Hawks, racking up a 20 point lead at the 11:40 minute mark with Devils baskets from Ethan Klueh (Orlando, FL.), Noah Pagan (Ringwood, NJ), Creek, and Smith. Hartwick made the effort to even the score, but the Devils continued their offensive pressure, with a 19 point lead at the 5:26 timestamp. The Hawks tried to close the gap, but the point deficit was too large for a first half comeback, ending the second half with a score of 52-35.
During the second half, the Hawks were able to close the gap to 7 point difference with a 12-2 run that happened at the 16:52 time stamp. Hartwick continued their offensive efforts as they closed the gap even further, only behind by 5 at the 4:28 minute mark, 77-73. During the final two minutes of game play, the Devils were able to block any offensive opportunities the Hawks took and ultimately ended the game with a score of 88-82.
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 53 percent (35-66) from the floor, 33.3 percent (9-27) from three-point range, and 64.3 percent (9-14) from the free throw line. They totaled 46 points in the paint, 31 off the bench, and 21 off turnovers.
Hartwick shot 42.6 percent (29-68) from the floor, 28.6 percent (6-21) from three-point range, and 64.3 percent (18-82) from the free throw line. They totaled 42 points in the paint, 51 off the bench, and 13 off turnovers.
FDU-Florham will travel to Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday, November 20th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
