0Camden, NJ (November 13) - The FDU Men's Basketball team comes up short during their first away game of the season against Rutgers-Camden, 67-62
The Devils were led by Christopher Smith (Florham Park, NJ) who tallied 13 points and 4 rebounds. Following Smith was McClellan Creek (Louisville, KY.) with 11 points, Ethan Klueh (Orlando, FL.) with 9 and Angel Smith (Bridgeton, NJ.) who tallied 7.
The Rutgers-Camden Raptors opened the first half with a 10-3 point lead, controlling the court offensively for the first ten minutes of game play. The FDU Devils were able to close that gap at the 10:47 minute mark as a Devil basket made by Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ) evened the score to 15-15. The Raptors were quickly able to regain the lead, but the Devils continued to work to close the gap once again. FDU was able to take another Rutgers-Camden 7-point lead down to 4 with a 3-pointer made by Klueh at the 0:18 timestamp, bringing the score to 34-30 at the half.
Early in the second half, the Devils took the score to an even 36-36 with a dunk by Carson Woods (Phoenix, AZ.) at the 16:24 time stamp. Rutgers-Camden continued their offensive plays to gain the lead, but the Devils kept catching up to the Raptors, reaching a score of 43-43 about halfway through the second half with a made free throw by Smith at the 10:12 minute mark. With less than 5 minutes left of regulation, the Raptors were able to stretch their lead to 8 points and ultimately finished on top with a score of 67-62.
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 44 percent (22-50) from the floor, 31.6 percent (6-19) from three-point range, and 66.7 percent (12-18) from the free throw line. They totaled 30 points in the paint, 30 off the bench, and 20 points off turnovers.
Centenary shot 45.7 percent (21-46) from the floor, 33.3 percent (8-24) from three-point range, and 70.8 percent (17-24) from the free throw line. They totaled 22 points in the paint, 7 off the bench, and 25 off turnovers.
FDU-Florham will return home on Friday, November 15th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
