New York, NY (October 31) – For its final non-conference match of the season, the FDU-Florham Volleyball Team (10-15, 1-5 MAC Freedom) traveled to John Jay (18-6, 5-1 CUNYAC) and experienced a 3-0 loss to the Blood Hounds.
Leading the Devils in this match were
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) and
Arianna Wood (Wayne, NJ) who both had four kills. Wood also was credited with six digs. Junior
Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, NJ) found herself near the top of the box score as she produced three kills and a block.
Set 1: The first point of the match belonged to FDU-Florham but John Jay quickly made a statement by jumping to a 6-12 lead. The Devils were able to claim four straight points to come within a two-point reach of the Blood Hounds, 14-12. Without a comfortable lead, John Jay took the home court advantage and turned set one into a 25-12 with 11 straight points.
Set 2: John Jay's momentum carried into the start of the second set as five straight points were scored. The Devils worked through the set point by point, starting with a kill from
Mackenzie Crandall (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and once again found themselves within two points. The Blood Hounds were able to regain their large lead even with FDU scoring in between cracks. Four straight points were the Devils' final effort to catch up but were stopped at a 21-16. John Jay was able to score the remaining four points to end at a 25-16 score.
Set 3: FDU-Florham believed that the heat was rising after outscoring them 4-2, when in fact John Jay was the one heating up with seven straight points. After a 5-1 run, the Devils were back at a reasonable deficit with a 13-10 score. With the Blood Hounds on the hunt in search of their final set win, FDU attempted to defend the match with a last-minute effort, but John Jay pulled ahead to far and ended the 3-0 overall match with a 25-17 set score.
FDU-Florham will face King's for their final MAC Freedom contest of the season on Wednesday, November 6th at 7:00pm. The Devils also plan to honor their seniors during the pregame.
