Madison, NJ (October 3) – The FDU Volleyball team (9-8, 1-1 MAC) played CCNY (1-8, 1-1 CUNYAC) and shut them out 3-0 on straight sets.
Tayla O'Connor (Roxbury, NJ) and
Meghan Kreinberg (Union, NJ) lead the game with eight kills. On the defensive side,
Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ) lead the Devils with ten digs.
Set 1: FDU came out swinging in the first set, winning the first seven points, forcing CCNY to call a timeout. After some traded points, the Devils dominated the rest of the way, going on four different scoring runs of three or more points in a row. Towards the end of the set, after a service error from CCNY,
Rachel Reiter (Riverside, CA) scored three straight service aces in a row, and an attack error from CCNY ended a dominant first set for the Devils, winning it 25-6.
Set 2: The start of the set was the exact opposite of Set 1, as CCNY scored 6 straight points before an FDU timeout was called. The Devils clawed their way back into it however, and before long, after some traded points, a kill from
Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, NJ) tied the set up at 11 apiece. After some more traded sets, and with CCNY having a narrow lead of 15-14, FDU put up a run of 4 points that ended with a
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) service ace. FDU went on another run of 3 points, and eventually won the set 25-20, and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3: The third set's start mirrored the second, as CCNY made their chances count, creating a lead of 6-2. Much like the second set, the Devils fought their way back into it, and after trading some points, went on a run of 4 points with O'Connor and Freeman both earning two kills. With FDU holding a narrow 17-16 lead, they shut the door, going on a six-point run, including a service ace from Everett. After CCNY scored their last two points, FDU scored two of their own, the last being a kill from
Hannah Weinmann (Monroe Twp, NJ), and won the third set by a score of 25-18 and winning the match 3-0.
The Devils will pack their bags and travel to Frederick, Maryland to participate in the Hood Tri-match on October 5
