Madison, N.J. (October 3) – In their second match of the week, the FDU-Florham Women's Tennis(1-3) team hosted East Stroudsburg (3-1) for non-conference action and were not able to fill sets, there taking the 7-0 loss after a few tough battles.
The Doubles portion only saw two of the three sets being filled from the Devils' side as
Paula Vanegas (Guttenberg, NJ) and
Meliha Bektesevic were able to record one point to avoid a shutout to Ariel Kelsick and Louise Boyer-Vidal, 6-1, in Doubles #1. Filling Doubles #2 were
Rachel Kappelmier (Freehold, NJ) and
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, NJ) who also scored one point before being handed the 6-1 loss from Gianina Speranza and Claudia Ermina. With Doubles #3 being forfeited from FDU-Florham, East Stroudsburg was able to secure the overall match point in the Doubles Portion.
In Singles #1, Bektesevic surrendered the first set to Boyer Vidal, 6-0, but did manage to have her opponent break a bit of a sweat as she scored two points before overall losing 6-2. Vanegas saw an even score in both of the sets of Singles #2 but the higher points were not in her favor Gotor won 6-1, 6-1. FDU-Florham also took the loss in Singles #3 as Caraccioli was unable to score against Maya Jackson, 6-0, 6-0.
With the Insufficient amount of players for FDU-Florham, East Stroudsburg won Singles #4, #5, and #6 by forfeit, which helped the Warriors secure the 7-0 match score.
FDU-Florham is set to hit the courts in one week as they will be traveling to Moravian for a rescheduled non-conference match on Thursday, October 10 at 4:00pm.
