Gwynedd Valley, PA. (October 2) - The FDU-Florham Field Hockey team defeats Gwynedd Mercy 4-3 after dominating the match offensively, leading in shooting and penalty corners.

At the start of the first quarter, the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins were able to get a goal within the first two minutes of game play. The FDU Devils responded quickly, evening the score when Abigal Antipas (Catasauqua, NJ) ran the ball up to the top of the circle, shooting it past the Griffin defense and goalie. Gwynedd Mercy fought back to regain the lead and were able to do so, earning another goal with less than five minutes left in the first quarter.
The Devils were down 2-1 at the start of the second quarter and needed to continue their offensive stride to even the score. At the 27:47 minute mark, first-year Sophia Candeloro (Sparta, NJ) took the FDU penalty corner and got the ball to FDU Midfielder Morgan Keller (Toms River, NJ). Keller was then able pass the ball back to Candeloro and she earned the next Devil goal. The score remained 2-2 for the rest of the second and third periods.
During the fourth and final quarter, FDU successfully regained the lead at the 46:42 minute mark as Gianna Ercolani (Marlton, NJ) tapped the ball into the cage right past the Gwynedd Mercy goalie. Less than one minute later, FDU took the score to 4-2 as Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) took the penalty corner and scored off a give-and-go assisted by Allie Serio (Scotch Plains, NJ). The Griffins were able to get one more goal at the 53:31 timestamp but were ultimately defeated 4-3 by the Devils. The FDU-Florham Devils led the game offensively, out shooting the Griffins 25-6 (20-5) and in penalty corners 12-5.
In goal for the match's full duration was Emily Schlessinger (Asbury NJ) as she saved 2 of the 5 shots taken on goal by the Griffins.
The FDU-Florham Devils will continue on the road as they travel to Stockton on Saturday, October 5th for a 1:00pm match up.
