Field Hockey Secures MAC Freedom Opener Win Against King’s

Madison, NJ. (October 12) - FDU-Florham Field Hockey Team earns their first conference win of the season with a 5-0 score over King's to open Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play Saturday afternoon from Robert T. Shields Field.

In the first quarter, neither the FDU-Florham Devils nor the King's Monarchs were able to earn a goal. During the first quarter, the Devils lead in shots, 8-0 (4 on goal) and penalty corners, 2-0, yet none were converted.  

 

The score remained 0-0 until the 24:14 timestamp during the second quarter when Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) landed the first goal of the match after battling with Monarch goalie at the post to earn the point. Not even 5 minutes later, with less than 3 minutes left on the clock, Dominique Rodriguez (Pittsgrove, NJ) earned the Devils their second goal after a successful pass from Allie Serio (Scotch Plains, NJ) off a penalty corner taken by Sophia Candeloro (Sparta, NJ).  



At the beginning minutes of the third quarter, FDU brought the score to 3-0 at the 33:24 timestamp as Medina earned her second goal of the contest after landing a shot to the back of the cage, flying right past Misericordia defense. At the 38:14 minute mark, Candeloro landed a fourth Devils goal assisted by Abigail Antipas (Catasauqua, NJ), who drove the ball across the front cage right to Candeloro.  
 

During the fourth quarter, FDU offense continued to press Misericordia defense as they earned the fifth and final goal of the contest. Medina landed her third goal of the match, earning herself a Hat-trick and securing the first MAC Freedom Conference win for the FDU-Florham Devils.  


In goal for the Devils was Senior Emily Schlessinger (Asbury NJ), Sophomore Adrianna Goodwin (Toms River, NJ), and First-year Sasha Pollock (Wanaque, NJ), as they collectively saved all 13 of the shots taken on goal by the Monarchs.  
 

The FDU-Florham Devils will continue home against Stevens on Wednesday, October 16th for a 7:00pm matchup.
