Montclair, NJ (September 6) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season as they were swept at Montclair State, 3-0 on Wednesday night.

Arianna Wood (Wayne, NJ) led the team in kills with eight on the night while also collecting four digs. Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) racked up nine digs on the night while Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif) posted a pair of blocks and kills on the night.

Set 1: Despite Wood knocking down the first point of the match for the Devils, The Red Hawks dominated the first set. After a 2-2 tie, they went on a five-point run to take a 7-2 lead. After some back-and-forth from both teams that lead to a 12-7 lead for Montclair, MSU went on a 13-1 run down to the stretch to take set 1, 25-8.

Set 2: Both teams traded points to a 3-3 tie at the beginning of the second set, but Montclair went on a seven-point run to jump out to a 10-3 lead. The Devils scored five of the next six points to cut into the lead, 11-8 but a run five-straight points pushed the lead to 16-8, Red Hawks. MSU kept a comfortable distance from FDU the rest of the set and took a 25-13 second set heading into the third set.

Set 3: The Devils showed life in the set, jumping out to multiple leads in set three with seven lead changes up to a 15-14 lead for FDU. The Red Hawks, however, were determined to close out the set and took back control with an 11-1 run to complete the match sweep with a 25-16 set three victory.

FDU-Florham gets ready for its first tri-match as they travel to Cedar Crest on Saturday, September 9 where they will square off with Falcons at 2:00 pm after opening with Penn State Berks at 12:00 pm.
