NY (September 7) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team (3-1) went on the road and secured a 3-1 win against Sarah Lawrence on Thursday night.
Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ) led the team in kills on the night with nine and had the best hitting percentage on the night with a .353.
Arianna Wood (Wayne, NJ) had double-digit digs with 13 on the night along with
Victoria Carrico (Mountainside, NJ) and
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) who each had 10. Carrico also led the team in assists (12) and service aces (4) during the road victory.
Set 1: The first set was all Devils as they quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead and then scored five out of the next eight points to make the score, 8-3. The Gryphons scored the next two points to cut into the lead but a kill by Wood sparked five straight points to jump out to a 13-5 advantage. FDU dominated down the stretch, out scoring Sarah Lawrence 12-4 to take set one, 25-9.
Set 2: Each team traded three points apiece until the Gryphons scored seven straight points to hold a 10-3 edge. The Devils scored a pair of points, but Sarah Lawrence went on a run of four straight points for a 14-5 lead. Every time the Devils tried to inch closer, the Gryphons kept them at bay and tied the match with a win in set two 25-15
Set 3: FDU came out hot in set three, jumping out to a 10-2 lead. Sarah Lawrence fought back to cut the lead to 12-7 but FDU went on a 6-1 run to take a 18-8 lead. The Gryphons once again tried to mount a comeback with four straight points, but once again the Devils kept them at bay, outscoring them 7-3 down the stretch to take set three with a score of 25-15.
Set 4: The Devils replicated the hot start they had in set three when they jumped out to a 10-1 lead. FDU held an 18-5 lead before Sarah Lawrence finally went on a run of four points to cut shorten the lead to 18-8. FDU would hold of Sarah Lawrence the rest of the set, outscoring them 7-5 down the stretch to take set four, 25-14 and win the match.
FDU-Florham gets ready for its first tri-match as they travel to Cedar Crest on Saturday, September 9 where they will square off with Falcons at 2:00 pm after opening with Penn State Berks at 12:00 pm.
