Madison, NJ (September 26) It was a tough battle on Robert T. Shields Field Tuesday night, where the FDU-Florham field hockey team ultimately lost to Moravian University by a score of 2-1.

FDU-Florham took a 1-0 lead, late in the first quarter, when
Megan Surgent (Wall, NJ) tipped in a shot from
Dominique Rodriguez (Pittsgrove, NJ) off a penalty corner. Less than two minutes into the second quarter Moravian's Sarah Bietka tied the game up off a penalty corner from Maria Tice.

Moravian came out strong in the second half, with Onalee Long scoring a goal within 6 minutes of the third quarter, making the score 2-1. Moravian's defense was able to stop the FDU-Florham offense in the second half, allowing zero shots on goal and ultimately fell, 2-1.

During the game, FDU accumulated a total 6 corner penalties and 5 shots on goal. Moravian tallied 8 shots on goal and 7 corners.

Emily Schlessinger (Asbury, NJ), faced a total of eight shots and ended the night with six saves.

The Devils had an important game as they represented The Hidden Opponent. THO is a non-profit organization that advocates for mental health awareness, education, and support among student-athletes. Three members of the field hockey team are campus captains for FDU's chapter of The Hidden Opponent (
Erin Kay,
Haleigh Dengler and
Dominique Rodriguez).

FDU-Florham will be hosting Stockton University for their next contest on Saturday, September 30. Saturday's game will be on Elizabeth Ruth Hennessy Track & Field at 12:00 p.m.
