Madison, NJ (September 22) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team (8-5) took care of business tonight as they downed Maritime College (3-6), 3-0 on Friday night.
Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) led the way for the Devils as she posted her first double-digit kill effort of the season with 10. She was followed by
Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ) who totaled eight kills and a team-high four aces.
Victoria Carrico (Mountainside, NJ) and
Lilli Nawrotzki (Flemington, NJ) each collected double-digit assists with Carrico notching 14 while Nawrotzki tallied 11.
Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ) and
Kiara Salme (Lyndhurst, NJ) each recorded nine digs in the matchup.
Set 1: The Devils dominated the first set, jumping out to leads of 7-2, 11-3 and 16-4. The Privateers were not able to string together a pair of points until the score mark of 24-8 to make it 24-10.
Arianna Wood (Wayne, NJ) closed that set out with a kill to take set one for Fairleigh Dickinson. Highlighting set one for FDU was
Jada Everett who went a perfect four-for-four on her attacks and notched two service aces.
Set 2: Two kills be Reiter and a bad set helped the Devils jump out to a 3-0 lead, but the Privateers answered back with three of their own. FDU once again went on a short run of four straight points including kills from Everett,
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) and
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) put the Devils back in the driver seat but Maritime kept close. After a 10-5 advantage for FDU, Maritime inched its way back and eventually brought the set to withing one at the 15-14-point mark. The Devils tried to pull away, but the Privateers kept finding ways to score and eventually took the set to the 24-24 mark where they took their first lead of the night after an attacking error. Both teams see sawed the lead in extra points with no team able to take the set until an attacking error, a service ace by
Charlee Tarlac (Union, NJ) and a bad set helped FDU escape with a 2-0 lead.
Set 3: Fairleigh Dickinson returned to their first set form, jumping out to a 5-0 lead thanks to three kills from Reiter, a kill from Everett and a service ace from
Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, NJ). The Devils jumped out to big leads once again, being up 9-2, 12-3 and 17-4. Maritime was able to find a pair of two point runs but FDU kept closing in on the sweep. Kills later in the set from Reiter and Hart made it 24-9. A kill from Maritime put them back in double-digit points but two attacking errors and a kill from Hart, closed out the night and sealed the victory for FDU-Florham.
The Devils are back in Middle Atlantic Conference action as they travel for a date with Stevens on Tuesday, September 26 at 7:00 pm
