Volleyball Swept by Conference Foe Stevens, 3-0

Hoboken, NJ (September 26) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team (8-6, 0-2 MAC FREE) was swept during its road MAC Freedom matchup against Stevens (9-4, 2-0 MAC FREE), 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) and Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) each collected a trio of kills while Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ) posted two kills and a service ace. Lilli Nawrotzki (Flemington, NJ) led the team with six assists while Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) did the same in digs with six.

Set 1: It was a back-and-forth beginning to the first set with the score reaching a 6-6 tie before the Ducks went on a run of six straight points to take a 12-6 lead. FDU scored three straight points, including a kill by Reiter, but Stevens scored nine straight to hold a 21-9 advantage. The Devils saw kills from DeFuria and Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ) but ended up dropping the first set, 25-12.

Set 2: Fairleigh Dickinson kept it close in the beginning of the set with Stevens only holding a 7-4 lead, but the Ducks put together another big run of nine straight points to take a 16-4 edge. The Ducks controlled the back half of the set to eventually command a 25-7 set two win.

Set 3: Stevens fired out in set three with four straight kills, but FDU bounced back with four straight points for a 4-4 tie. A five-point swing from the Ducks was only answered with two points from the Devils and then Stevens found a pair of points for an 11-6 lead. Despite a twin kills and a service ace from Hart and a kill from Arianna Wood (Wayne, NJ), FDU-Florham was never able to find a rhythm and ultimately was defeated in set three, 25-16.

The Devils head out for their third tri-match of the season, traveling to St. Joseph's-Long Island to square off with the Golden Eagles at 2:00 pm after a matchup with Mount Saint Mary (NY) at 12:30 pm.
