Volleyball Takes Care of Mount Saint Vincent, 3-1

Madison, NJ (September 2) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team was able to handle the quick turnaround in action and took care of business as they defeated Mount Saint Vincent, 3-1 on Saturday morning.

Sophomore Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) led the way for the Devils with 11 kills and five total blocks (two solo, three assist). Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) had her second straight 20+ dig performance with 20 digs on day to go along with five kills. Victoria Carrico (Mountainside, NJ) racked up 24 assists for FDU.

Set 1: The Devils jumped out to a 6-1 lead and then a 7-3 edge before the Dolphins produced a six-point rally to take the advantage 8-7. The two teams exchanged leads until a Lili Nawrotzki (Flemington, NJ) kill gave FDU the lead 12-11. FDU-Florham would keep Mount Saint Vincent at bay for the rest of the set and eventually took set one, 25-23.

Set 2: Set two started out strong for the Devils who took a 4-1 advantage, but the Dolphins rallied up an 8-1 run to take a 9-5 lead. FDU created a run of their own, outscoring Mount Saint Vincent, 7-3 to tie the contest 12-12. The set saw six lead changes the rest of the way, including ties at the 15-15, 20-20 and 24-24 marks to head into extra points. The score was locked at 26-26 but two straight kills from Fruscione helped seal the set win for the Devils and give them a 2-0 set edge.

Set 3: Mount Saint Vincent got off to an early lead and never relinquished it throughout the set. The Devils inched themselves close on several occasions but the Dolphins distanced themselves every time FDU got close. Mount Saint Vincent ended up taking a 25-20 set three win to force a fourth set.

Set 4: Set four was all FDU from the first serve. The Devils held big leads of 7-1, 11-3, 17-10 and 21-11. Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ) came up big at the end. She got a kill and three straight service aces to close out the set 25-12 and the match.

FDU-Florham will travel to Montclair State for its first road contest of the season on Wednesday, September 9 at 7:00 pm.
