Box Score 2 Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (September 16-17)- The FDU-Florham men's tennis team competed in the King's Fall invitational on Saturday and Sunday afternoon this weekend. The Devils saw multiple semifinal and finals matchups during the weekend's tournament.
In singles play,
Kelvin Liwag (Marlboro, NJ) made it to the finals of the No. 3 flight by beating Harry Becraft of Susquehanna in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 7-5 and in the semifinals defeated Sam Langer of Elizabethtown, 6-1, 6-1. He unfortunately dropped his matchup in the No. 3 finals to Patrick Pech of King's College (Pa.), 6-1, 7-6 (5-0).
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) competed in the No. 2 singles flight. He defeated Josh Neidert of Lycoming, 6-0, 6-1 but fell in the semifinals match against John Toussaint of King's (Pa.), 6-2, 6-4.
Brandon Schwartz (Gladwyne, NJ) notched two wins during his singles run in the No. 4 flight. He was victorious in his first-round matchup against Mohamed Ebeid of Lycoming, 6-0, 6-3 and he notched a win in the quarterfinals against Eli Harding of Misericordia, 6-0, 6-1. He dropped his semifinal matchup to Steven Prosperino of Scranton, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Both
Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ) and
Quinn Carmody (Hingham, Mass.) both competed in singles brackets as well, but both dropped their respective first matches in the quarterfinals. Emery, competing in the No. 1 flight, lost to Maxwell Dombrowski of Scranton, 6-3, 6-3 while Carmody was defeated by Derwin Guzman of Manhattanville, 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 flight.
In doubles, both Devils doubles teams made it to the final matchup. The team of Emery and Duval teamed up in the No. 1 doubles flight to defeat Jason Budrys and Maxwell Dombrowski from Scranton, 8-3 in the quarterfinals and then were victorious against John Toussaint and Logan Gregory from King's (Pa.), 4-3 in the semifinals. The duo of Liwag and Schwartz won their quarterfinal matchup in the No. 2 doubles flight against Sam Langer and Luke Paulson of Elizabethtown, 8-5 and then won in the semifinals against Carter Hunter-Crump and Derwin Guzman from Manhattanville, 8-6.
Both finals matches were called early due to inclement weather and were never finished.
FDU-Florham will host Farmingdale State for a match on Wednesday, September 20 at 4:00 pm.
