Brooklyn, NY (September 14) –Sophomore setter
Gianna Buscarino (Centereach, NY) broke the single-match service ace record tonight for the FDU-Florham volleyball team (6-3) as she amassed 17 service aces during a 3-0 rout at Medgar Evers on Thursday night. She beat the previous record of 12 that was held by Nicole Weissert back in 2010.
Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) led the Devils in kills for the third straight match as she tallied six on the night and four service aces.
Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, NJ) collected five digs while
Victoria Carricco (Mountainside, NJ) led the team in assists again with 10.
Set 1: Kills from
Jada Everett (Hackansack, NJ) and
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) highlighted the early portion of the set as the Devils jumped out to a 6-2 lead. After a point exchange from both teams, FDU took the rest of the set for a 17-point run to take set one, 25-3. Highlights during that run were eight of Buscarino's 17 service aces, three kills from
Arianna Wood (Wayne, NJ) and two kills from Reiter.
Set 2: Kills from
Lindsay Davis (New Milford, NJ), Reiter and
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) got Fairleigh Dickinson going early in set two as they jumped out to a 5-2 lead. The Devils then put together a big run of 10 points before the Cougars found another point including five more service aces from Buscarino and kills from Reiter, Fruscione and
Erin McCabe (Monroe Twp., NJ). After the Medgar Evers point, Reiter notched four-straight service aces to spark seven-unanswered points. FDU eventually closed out the set with a final score of 25-5 heading into the third.
Set 3: After the Cougars opened up the set with a kill, the Devils scored 18 unanswered points. The run was highlighted by four service aces by Freeman, four service aces by
Kiara Salme (Lyndhurst, NJ), a pair of service aces from
Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ) and a pair of kills from
Emma Robinson (Cedar Park, Texas). After three points from the Cougars, the Devils went back on the attack and jumped out to a 20-4 lead. After another Medgar Evers point, Buscarino closed out her historic night with four-straight service aces to complete the dominant sweep for Fairleigh Dickinson.
The Devils travel to Mahwah, NJ for their second tri-match of the season, starting with Ramapo at 11:00 am and Pratt at 1:00 pm.
