Volleyball Sweeps St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn, 3-0

Madison NJ (September 13) –After a losing a five-set match last night to Rutgers-Newark, the FDU-Florham volleyball team (5-3) bounced back and swept St. Joseph's-Brooklyn (0-2), 3-0 on Wednesday night.

Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) once again led the team in kills as she posted nine on the night as well as a block. Victoria Carrico (Mountainside, NJ) posted a team-high six service aces to go along with 24 assists in the three-set match. Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) collected her fourth double-digit dig game with 10 on the night. Jada Everett (Hackansack, NJ) tallied seven kills and three service aces while Arianna Wood (Wayne, NJ) compiled eight kills and nine digs.

Set 1: The Devils dominated the early portion of the set with eight unanswered points that included four service aces for Carrico and two kills from Everett. FDU held an 11-1 lead before St. Joseph's starting scoring points but were never able to create a run. Kills by Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, NJ), Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ), Everett and Wood highlighted the play from the Devils down the stretch as they handled business in the first set, 25-10

Set 2: The Bears fought back in the second set when after a 4-4 set two score, they scored seven straight points to jump out to an 11-4 lead. The Devils fought back to a 12-9 deficit, but the Bears went on a 5-1 run to distance themselves with a 17-10 advantage. Kills from Hart, Everett and Wood helped Fairleigh Dickinson climb back again and after a score of 20-16 in favor of Saint Joseph's, five straight points flipped the script for FDU to take a 21-20 lead. The Devils held on to the lead and a kill by Freeman at a score of 24-23, closed the set out and gave FDU the chance at the sweep.

Set 3: Brooklyn jumped out to an 8-4 lead early but FDU-Florham scored eight unanswered points highlighted by three service aces from Everett, two kills from Reiter and a kill from Wood to give the Devils a 12-8 edge. The Bears were never able to keep close the rest of the set as the Devils groups of points for every point the Bears found. The match was finished off on a kill by Everett as FDU was able to complete the sweep.

The Devils play their third-straight day with a match, this time on the road as they travel to take on Medgar Evers on Thursday, September 14 for a 7:00 pm match.
