FDU Devils Announce Hall of Fame Class of 2023

Madison, NJ (July 26)- The FDU-Florham Department of Athletics, in conjunction with the Hall of Fame Committee, is happy to announce its 2023 Hall of Fame Class.

The inductees for this year's 2023 Hall of Fame class are Dan Decker BS '17 (men's lacrosse), Jordan Durham BA '16 (women's golf), Melissa Gaffney BS '19 (volleyball), Adam Geiger BS '09 MBA '11 (men's tennis), Roger Kindel (men's basketball/men's golf/Associate AD/Interim AD), and the 2006-2009 men's golf teams.

In addition to our 2023 FDU-Florham Athletics Hall of Fame Inductees, we will also be honoring Bill Klika, who was honored this year as an inductee into the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Hall of Fame.

This year's Hall of Fame Ceremony will take place at Lenfall Hall on the campus of FDU-Florham on Sunday, September 17.

Cocktails and the reception will begin at 12:00 pm and the induction ceremony and lunch will take place at 1:00 pm.

Dan Decker BS '17 (Men's Lacrosse)

Decker played in 62 games for the Devils men's lacrosse team from 2014-2017 and ranks first all-time in career ground balls (318) and caused turnovers (142). Decker also ranks second and third all-time in caused turnovers in a season with 44 in 2016 and 43 in 2017. He is also tied for third all-time in single season ground balls with 100.

Dan was a USILA honorable mention All-American, USILA Scholar All-American, second team IMLCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection, a four-time All-MAC Freedom first team selection, the 2014 MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year and a two-time Team MVP during his playing career.

Decker also helped lead the Devils to three appearances in the MAC Freedom tournament, including two trips to the MAC Freedom semifinals.

Jordan Durham BA '16 (Women's Golf)

Durham competed for the FDU-Florham women's golf team from 2013-2016 and stands alone as the only MAC Individual Champion in program history when she won it in 2013 with a score of 84. She placed tenth or better three times at the MAC Championship during her playing career.

Durham is also the only women's golf student-athlete to be recognized as the MAC Freedom Player of the Year and the MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year. She was also a first team All-MAC Freedom selection and a two-time second team All-MAC Freedom selection.

Melissa Gaffney BS '19 (Volleyball)

Gaffney was a part of the Devils volleyball team from 2014-2017. During her career, she stamped herself on the all-time career lists as she ranks second in total sets played (474), second in total attacks (4,054), third in kills (1,305), fourth in kills per set (2.73) and fifth in total points (1,482).

Melissa was an All-MAC Freedom selection every year she competed as she was a three-time second team All-MAC Freedom selection (2014, 2016 and 2017) and an honorable mention All-MAC Freedom honoree (2015).

Gaffney helped lead FDU-Florham to three appearances in the MAC Freedom Tournament as well as three ECAC Tournament appearances during her playing career.

Adam Geiger BS '09 MBA '11 (Men's Tennis)

Geiger competed for the Devils men's tennis team from 2006-2009. During his playing career, he picked up a total of 82 wins (31 singles and 51 doubles) which ranks fifth all-time in career wins. In those career wins, 35 were from the first doubles position which is the most in program history.

Adam was a four-time All-MAC Freedom selection including three first team appearances and was the 2006 MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year.

During his time on the team, he helped lead the Devils to reach the MAC Freedom Tournament in all four years of his playing career (first time in program history) and led the Devils to their first, and only, MAC Freedom Regular Season Championship.

Roger Kindel (Men's Basketball Coach/Men's Golf Coach/Associate & Interim AD)

Coach Kindel served over 40 years at FDU-Florham as both a coach and an administrator for the department. He coached the men's basketball team for 28 years (1978-2005) and the men's golf team for 29 years (1989-2018). Roger also served as the Associate Athletic Director and ended his tenure at FDU-Florham when he stepped in as the Interim Athletic Director before retiring in 2018.

In 2016, Kindel received the Middle Atlantic Conference's Lou Sorrentino Award, presented to the MAC athletics administrator who's had a sustained and influential role in conference and national affairs, and embodies the NCAA Division III philosophy.

In 2013, he won the prestigious University Pillar Award, which honors those who have made extraordinary contributions to Fairleigh Dickinson and have been with the University for more than 10 years.

During his time as the men's basketball head coach, he amassed 334 wins, reached the NCAA Tournament in 1990 and 1998, competed in the ECAC tournament seven times, including winning the ECAC championship in 1999 and made the MAC Freedom Tournament 9 times.

As the men's golf head coach, he guided the Devils to four consecutive Freedom Conference Tournament Championships from 2005-2009 and an additional one in 2013. Kindel coached men's golf to four NCAA Tournament appearances and won Freedom Coach of the Year five times as well as five Conference Players of the Year.
 
2006-2009 Men's Golf teams

Under the direction of Roger Kindel, the 2006-2009 men's golf teams won three Freedom Conference Championships, won a regular season Freedom Championship, made three NCAA Tournament appearances, and had multiple First Team All-MAC Freedom players and Conference Player of the Year selections. The combined team record of those seasons were 27-7.

Bill Klika, 2023 Middle Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame

Bill Klika worked on the Florham campus for 44 years and served in many different roles while at FDU. In 1974, Klika founded the FDU football program and was the head coach of the team from 1974-96 and 2000-01. In addition, from 1974-81 Klika was the assistant coach for the men's lacrosse team and from 1982-88 he was the head coach of the FDU baseball team. In May of 1988, Klika was named Interim Director of Athletics and in December of that year, took over that role in a full time capacity.
 
As the Director of Athletics at FDU, a role he held from 1989-2017, Klika was vital in the construction of the Ferguson Recreation Center, founded the FDU-Florham Hall of Fame in 1995, added seven varsity sports and oversaw the construction of a new artificial turf field and grandstands now known as Robert T. Shields Field. Under his guidance, the department appeared in the NCAA Tournament 23 times, culminating with a Women's Basketball National Championship in 2014. 
 
In 2012, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) named Klika as the Athletic Director of the Year for the Southeast Region. He was also presented with the Lou Sorrentino Award in the same year, given by the MAC in recognition of commitment to the conference and to NCAA Division III. Klika served on many national, regional and conference committees during his tenure including the NCAA Division III football national committee where he served as Chair during the 2002-03 season, the MAC Executive Council and the NCAA Division III Management Council.
 
FDU also recognized Klika with the Pillar Award, which recognizes those exceptional individuals who, over time, have made extraordinary contributions to the character and quality of the University, its community and culture.
 
Bill was inducted into the FDU Devils Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020 and still is an active member of the FDU community as he is an adjunct professor in the Sport Management department.
