Seniors Help Men’s Lacrosse Punch Their Ticket to the MAC Freedom Playoffs During Win Against Lycoming, 18-12

Madison, NJ. (April 29) – The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team (7-10, 3-5 MAC FREE) honored its six seniors today before the contest and saw them deliever 10 of the teams 18 goals to help punch their ticket to the MAC Freedom playoffs for the first time since 2017 as they defeated Lycoming (6-11, 3-5 MAC FREE), 18-12 on Saturday afternoon.
 
The seniors that were honored before today's MAC Freedom matchup; Trevor Arnone (Poughkeepsie, NY), Lucas Berghahn (Poughkeepsie, NY), Vince Musico (Howell, NJ), Robert Nawrocki (Northfield, NJ), Brian Stewart (Narbeth, Pa), and Michael Stewart (Poughkeepsie, NY).
 
Brendan Fabin (Randolph, NJ) was a big factor in today's win as he posted a career-high six goals in the matchup. B. Stewart matched Fabins career-high with one of his own as he tallied four goals and two assists for six points. Arnone set career-highs with 21 faceoff wins and 14 ground balls in the victory. Dalton Povilaitis (Jefferson, NJ) did his part and made 13 saves while getting the win in net.
 
For the Warriors, Joey Hoover scored four goals while Owen Zimmerman scored four points on two goals and two assists. Despite suffering the loss, Ben Franco stopped 18 shots while in net for Lycoming.
 
Berghahn scored the first goal of the game before Lycoming posted three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead early in the first quarter. Brian Stewart scored his first goal on a good pass by Ronnie Trisuzzi (Rockaway, NJ) but Lycoming kept FDU at bay with another two goals before B. Stewart scooped up a ground ball and fired in a shot with two seconds left to go in the first quarter to cut the deficit to 5-3 entering the second.
 
The second quarter saw the two teams exchange goal for goal two times before M. Stewart and Fabin tied the game with back-to-back goals to make the score 7-7 at the 2:56 mark in the second quarter. Lycoming scored quickly but B. Stewart did the same and the game was tied 8-8 heading into the second half.
 
Lycoming outscored the Devils 2-1 to start the third quarter for a 10-9 lead but a goal by Fabin sparked a huge seven-goal run that carried into the fourth quarter and with that the Devils jumped out to a 16-10 lead with 9:54 left to go in the fourth quarter. The Warriors scored two straight goals but the Devils took advantage of late penalties and scored two-man up goals to close the game out with the 18-12 win.
 
As a team, The Devils took a season-high 61 shots with 37 on goal, accumulated a season-high 53 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. FDU also went 16-for-20 on their clear attempts.
 
Lycoming as a team, took 35 shots with 26 on goal and picked up 28 ground balls as well as causing 10 turnovers. The Warriors also went 18-for-22 on clear attempts.
 
FDU-Florham enters the MAC Freedom Tournament as the fifth seed and will play in the 4/5 Play in game and take on fourth seeded Misericordia team on Monday, May 1 with a time still to be determined.
