Dallas, Pa. (May 1) – The fifth-seeded FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team (7-11) was upended in the MAC Freedom Play-in game at fourth-seeded Misericordia, 19-5 on Monday night.
Robert Nawrocki (Northfield, NJ) posted his lone hat trick of the season on the night while
Brenden Fabin (Randolph, NJ) tallied a goal and an assist.
Dalton Povilaitis (Jefferson, NJ) started the contest in goal and suffered the loss while making five saves while
Matt Reifer (Newtown, Pa.) got the second half nod and made five saves as well.
For the Cougars, Robert Wagner led the way with seven points on four goals and three assists while Kyle Vandenberg, Ryan Vadenberg and Connor Bevan all scored hat tricks. Sean Wallace notched the win in goal and made eight. Chris Straub relieved Wallace in the net for the final quarter and recorded three saves.
Misericordia took the advantage early in contest with four unanswered goals before Fabin was able to score at the 4:00 mark in the first quarter to trail 4-1 heading into the second quarter.
The Cougars were red hot in the second quarter as they outscored the Devils 9-1 with the lone second quarter goal from the Devils coming from Nawrocki. Misericordia went into the half with a huge 13-2 lead.
The third quarter was more of the same as Misericordia shutdown FDU 5-0 to take a 18-2 lead into the fourth quarter. The Devils outscored the Cougars in the fourth quarter with two goals from Nawrocki and a goal by
Lucas Berghahn (Poughkeepsie, NY) but the lead was insurmountable, and the Cougars won the matchup to move on to the next round.
As a team, The Devils took 44 shots with 16 on goal, accumulated 30 ground balls and two caused turnovers. FDU also went 14-for-19 on their clear attempts.
Misericordia as a team, took 49 shots with 29 on goal and picked up 38 ground balls as well as causing five turnovers. The Cougars also went 18-for-23 on clear attempts.
