Madison, NJ (April 24)- The Second-seeded FDU-Florham men's tennis team is set to host the third-seeded DeSales team in the MAC Freedom Semifinals on Tuesday, April 25. The match will be hosted on the campus of Saint Elizabeth University and is slated to start around 3:00 pm.
FDU enters the playoffs with an 8-4 overall record and a 6-1 conference record over the course of the year. Their MAC Freedom wins came against King's (9-0), DeSales (6-3), Misericordia (9-0), Lycoming (9-0), Arcadia (9-0) and Wilkes (9-0). The Devils enter their 16
th MAC Freedom playoff matchup and their second in a row under the tutelage of head coach
Bob Bynum. Last season, FDU was edged by Wilkes in the MAC Freedom Semifinals, 5-4.
The Bulldogs came into the third seed of the MAC Freedom semifinals with a 9-4 overall record and a 5-2 MAC Freedom record. DeSales won MAC Freedom matchups this season against Arcadia (9-0), King's (9-0), Wilkes (8-1), Misericordia (9-0), and Lycoming (9-0).
The Devils are led by
Tyler Crook (East Orange, NJ) who has been the team's No. 1 since the spring season with a 7-2 overall record and 5-1 conference record this year.
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) leads the team in singles wins on the year with a 12-3 overall record. Duval also garners a 5-2 MAC Freedom record. FDU has also seen strong singles-season performances from
Joni Carasso (Buenos Aires, Argentina) who holds a 7-4 overall record and a 4-2 conference record,
Zach Puccia (Red Bank, NJ) who garners a 6-3 overall record and a 4-2 conference record,
Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ) who possesses an 8-5 overall record with a 6-1 conference record and
Brandon Schwartz (
Gladwayne, Pa.) who is 5-0 in singles play with a 4-0 conference record.
In doubles play, the top teams for the Devils have been Crook and Carasso who have gone 7-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play, the pairing of Duval and Emery who garner a doubles record of 8-2 overall and 4-1 in conference action and the duo of Puccia and Schwartz who hold an 8-1 overall record and a 5-1 conference record.
The winner of this matchup will advance to the MAC Freedom Finals and will play the winner of the Stevens/King's match. The finals will be held on April 29 with a time and location to be determined.
