Madison, NJ. (April 22) – Wilkes (3-12, 1-5 MAC FREE) put together a four-goal fourth quarter rally that helped push them past the FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team (6-10, 2-5 MAC FREE), 12-11 on Saturday afternoon.
Trevor Arnone (Poughkeepsie, NY) posted a season-high 19 faceoff wins on the day as well as a season-high 12 ground balls and a goal.
Brenden Fabin (Randolph, NJ) led the team in points on the afternoon, firing in four goals and an assist for five points.
Dalton Povilaitis (Jefferson, NJ) was credited with the loss in the net while also making eleven saves.
For the Colonels, Colby Opromolla led the way with five points on four goals and an assist followed by Tim Hartka who had a hat trick and an assist for four points. Joseph Marino notched the win in goal for Wilkes while also making 15 saves.
The Devils had complete control of the game in the first quarter, outscoring the Colonels, 5-1 including two goals from
Brian Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.) that were within 16 seconds of each other at the 12:20 and 12:06 marks in the opening period.
The Colonels stormed back in the second quarter, winning the goal advantage, 4-1. Wilkes scored three unanswered goals to put them within one score, 5-4.
Michael Stewart (Narbeth, Pa) tried to keep it a multiple score game with a goal at the 7:38 mark but a goal by Hartka with five seconds to go in the half kept it a one score game going into the third quarter, 6-5.
The third period was fairly even with the Devils scoring four goals to the Colonels three to head into the fourth quarter with a 10-8 lead. Fabin made it a three-score lead at the 7:42 mark in the fourth but the Colonels did not give in scoring four unanswered goals including a Hartka goal at the 1:18 timestamp to tie the matchup and a game-winner by Austin Seames to take the victory.
As a team, The Devils took 52 shots with 23 on goal, accumulated 41 ground balls and caused 16 caused turnovers. FDU was near perfect in its clear attempts, succeeding on 19-of-20.
Wilkes as a team, took 30 shots with 21 on goal and picked up 31 ground balls as well as causing 13 turnovers. The Colonels also went 28-for-32 on clear attempts.
FDU-Florham closes out the regular season next Saturday, April 29 with a MAC Freedom matchup against Lycoming at 1:00 pm. The Devils will also honor its six seniors before the game.
