Jersey City, NJ. (April 11)- The FDU-Florham men's tennis team (4-4) was bested in non-conference action at New Jersey City, 8-1 on Thursday afternoon.
The Gothic Knights jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play. The pair of
Tyler Crook (East Orange, NJ) and
Joni Carasso (Buenos Aires, Argentina) were downed 8-3 by the duo Nico Teynie and Alejandro Ley but
Zach Puccia (Red Bank, NJ) and
Brandon Schwartz (
Gladwayne, Pa.) were able to even the match with an 8-5 victory against Jordi Julia and Joaquin Pluis. NJCU ended doubles play with the team of Pedro Caro and Ryan Weiss blanking of
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) and
Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ), 8-0.
In singles action, the Gothic Knights swept the Devils. Crook was downed by Teynie, 7-5 and 6-3 while Carasso was beaten by Ley, 6-2 and 4-1. Puccia was taken down by Pluis, 6-1 and 6-4 while the Gothic Knights Caro sealed the match against Duval, 7-6 and 6-1. Jersey City completed the singles sweep with Julia knocking off Emery , 6-3 and 6-2 while Weiss bested
Karanveer Saini (Punjab, India) with a score of 6-2 and 6-4.
FDU-Florham returns to MAC Freedom action Friday, April 14 as they travel to take on Misericordia at 3:30pm.
