Madison, NJ. (April 11)- The FDU-Florham men's tennis team (4-3, 2-1 MAC FREE) suffered its first defeat of the spring season as they were blanked by conference foe #39 Stevens (9-6, 5-0 MAC FREE), 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
Stevens jumped out to the 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles competition. The pair of
Tyler Crook (East Orange, NJ) and
Joni Carasso (Buenos Aires, Argentina) came the closest to victory but defeated by Stevens' Olaf Persson and Aashi Kulakarni, 8-4. The team of
Zach Puccia (Red Bank, NJ) and
Brandon Schwartz (
Gladwayne, Pa.) as well as the duo of
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) and
Matt Emery (Howell, NJ) were both defeated 8-2.
In singles play, the matchup of Crook against Kalakarni was the highlight of the day. Kalakarni downed Crook in the first set 6-4 but Crook was able to bounce back and take a set 7-6 to lead the match into a third one. Both of the competitors fought hard but in the end, Kalakarni emerged victorious 10-8 in set three to take the win against Crook
Stevens took control of the competition the rest of the way. Vivek Harinarayan defeated Carasso 6-2, 6-0 and sealed the match win when Andrew He beat Puccia, 6-1 and 7-6. The Ducks would get the sweep after Max-William Kanz downed Duval (6-0 and 6-1), Timothy Lau bested Emery (6-1 and 6-2) and Sebastian Wroe took down
Karanveer Saini (Punjab, India) with a score of 6-1 and 6-2.
FDU-Florham travels to take on New Jersey City Thursday, April 14 for a 1:00 pm start.
