Madison, NJ (March 29) – The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team opened MAC Freedom play with a 28-10 setback to No. 20 nationally-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday evening on Robert T. Shields Field.
FDU-Florham (4-6, 0-1 MAC Freedom) was led by
Brenden Fabin (Randolph, NJ), who posted four goals and one assist for five points.
Lucas Berghahn (Poughkeepsie, NY) chipped in with his third hat trick of the season with a trio of goals. Defensively,
Brian Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.) guided the Devils with four ground balls.
Stevens (8-2, 1-0 MAC Freedom) was led by Blake Creamer with five goals and one assist for six points, while both Matthew Pergola and Kevin Crowley both tallied three goals and two assists for five points. Defensively, both Joseph Cawley and Bryan Creamer scooped up six ground balls apiece.
Stevens scored the first 11 goals of the game before Berghahn got the Devils on the board just three minutes into the second quarter. FDU-Florham scored four goals in the second quarter, four in the third and two in the fourth, but never came any closer to Stevens than nine goals at 16-7 midway through the third. Over the final 16:58 of the game, the Ducks outscored the Devils by a 10-2 margin to account for the 28-10 final.
Stevens led statistically in shots (55-23), ground balls (50-27) and faceoffs (30-11). The Ducks went 18-for-21 on the clear, while FDU-Florham went 11-for-26 in transition and 1-for-6 on the man-advantage.
Matt Reifer (Newtown, Pa.) made ten saves in net for the Devils, while Stevens used five different goalkeepers in net tonight to account for six saves.
FDU-Florham will travel to Arcadia University for another MAC Freedom matchup on Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 pm.
