Newburgh, NY (March 22) – The FDU-Florham Men's lacrosse team traveled to Mount Saint Mary on Wednesday afternoon, for a non-conference match up that resulted in a 11-10 win for the Devils.
Sophomore Midfielder
Brenden Fabin (Randolph, NJ) recorded a hat trick of three goals, along with seven ground balls.
Ricky Lewis (Washington NJ) added his third goal of the season and two ground balls.
FDU-Florham was the first to make a mark on the scoreboard as Senior
Lucas Berghahn (Poughkeepsie, NY) scored the first goal with in five minutes. Mount Saint Mary's Mike Travers evened the score just 22 seconds after Berghahn's goal. Both the Devils and the Knights were able to add another goal to their sides of scoreboard before the first quarter expired.
The heat was rising in the second quarter as four different Devils scored on all unassisted goals. Mount Saint Mary added two goals but was not able to catch the Devils before the half, 6-4.
Coming into the third quarter, the Knights meant business as they scored three times to regain control of the game, 7-6, before a battle of emerged in the final quarter.
Joseph Misurelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) flicked his stick at the eight-minute time stamp to even the score backout, 7-7. Two more Devils added a goal to up the score before Mount Saint Mary could strike again with five and half minutes to go. Berghahn and Fabin whipped the ball into the back of the net to go up 11-8 with less than a minute to play. Two of Mount Saint Mary's players were able to sneak into the Devils half to score in the last minutes. The Devils survived the final minute and were able to hold on for the 11-10 win.
The Devils held a 42-46 disadvantage in shots, was 35-49 in ground balls and went a 18-for-22 on the clear. FDU-Florham was successful on ten faceoff attempts.
In net,
Dalton Povilaitis (Jefferson, NJ) was awarded the win with 17 saves and faced 27 shots on goal. Kenny Leen for Mount Saint Mary recorded 14 saves and 25 shots on goal.
FDU-Florham will host Stevens to open MAC Freedom play on Wednesday, March 29 at 7:00 pm for their next matchup.
