Wilkes Upends Women's Basketball, 67-24

Madison, NJ (February 4) – The FDU-Florham women's basketball team hosted MAC Freedom opponent Wilkes University and fell by a 67-24 final on Saturday afternoon inside the Ferguson Recreation Center.

FDU-Florham dropped to 0-17 overall and to 0-13 in MAC Freedom play, while Wilkes improved to 6-15 overall and to 5-7 in the league.
 
The Devils were led by Abigail Rodriguez (Woodbridge, NJ), who totaled eight points, three rebounds, and one assist. Destiny Knight (Philadelphia, PA) added seven points and seven rebounds in today's contest.
 
Julianna Askins collected 14 points for Wilkes on a 4-for-8 effort from three-point range. Victoria Crooker added 12 points  and five rebounds to help secure the 67-24 win for the Colonels.
 
In the opening half, Rodriguez accounted for five of FDU-Florham's nine points. Elsayyid and Blackburn both added two points each, while Askins tallied 12 of 42 points for Wilkes in the first half.

In a steady second half of action, the Devils were able get some shots to fall. Knight and Elsayyid both connected on three pointers that gave FDU-Florham the energy to keep playing with five minutes to play. FDU shot 40.0-percent in the fourth quarter from behind the arc.

As a team, FDU-Florham shot 19.6-percent (9-for-46) from the floor, 10.0-percent (2-for-20) from three point range and 50.0-percent (4-for- 8) from the free throw line, while Wilkes shot 40.3-percent (27-for-67) from the floor, 29.4 -percent (10-for-34) from three point range and 60.0-percent (3-for-5) from the free throw line.

Wilkes scored 18 points in the paint, 21 points off FDU-Florham turnovers and 44 points off the bench.
 
FDU-Florham will rest for a week before traveling to Lycoming College for its next contest. Tip-off is set for 1pm on Saturday, February 4.
