Men's Lacrosse Rallies to Defeat Drew, 12-9, in Battle of Madison Avenue

Madison, NJ (February 25) – Tied at nine with less than five minutes to play in regulation, the FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team scored three straight goals to give the Devils a 12-9 non-conference win over crosstown rival Drew University in the Battle of Madison Avenue on Saturday afternoon.
 
FDU-Florham (3-1) first-year Joseph Misurelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) registered his first collegiate hat trick and added two assists for five points to lead the Devils offense. Nichols Perillo (Jackson, NJ), Robert Nawrocki (Northfield, NJ), Brenden Fabin (Randolph, NJ) and Michael Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.) all had two goals apiece in the win.

Defensively, Zachary Van Zile (Kinnelon, NJ) led the Devils with four caused turnovers in addition to a trio of ground balls, while Ricky Lewis (Washington, NJ) notched a team-high four ground balls. Trevor Arnone (Poughkeepsie, NY) went 9-for-21 at the faceoff X.

Drew (2-2) was led offensively by Brett Spafford and Charlie Collins with two goals apiece, while GJ Nazziola went 14-for-23 at the faceoff dot and tallied a game-high seven ground balls.
 
FDU-Florham scored the first four goals of the contest and took a 5-2 lead after one quarter. Misurelli tallied two of his three goals of the day in the opening stanza, while Perillo, who scored 4:37 into the game, posted a goal on the man advantage.
 
Drew came out of the break down 6-3 and eventually knotted the game up at 9-9 late in the fourth quarter, but it was FDU-Florham which rallied for the win. Stewart scored off a feed from Misurelli, while Fabin and Perillo added the insurance for the 12-9 victory.
 
As a team, Drew held statistical advantages in shots (43-33), shots on goal (22-16), ground balls (41-26) and faceoff wins (14-9). FDU-Florham ended the day 21-for-29 on clearing attempts and 1-fof-7 on extra man opportunities.

In net, Dalton Povilatis (Jefferson, NJ) made a career-high 13 saves and improved to 3-1 for the Devils.
 
FDU-Florham will host in-state rival Montclair State University on Wednesday, March 1 in a non-conference matchup at 7:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.
