Hackettstown, NJ (February 22) – The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team traveled to Centenary University on Wednesday afternoon, for a non-conference match up that resulted in a 21-3 win for the Devils after three quarters of play.
FDU-Florham (2-1) used eleven different goal scorers to account for their 21 goals on the day, while Centenary (0-2) was guided by three goals from two of their players.
FDU-Florham scored the first eight goals of the contest, before Centenary netted the ball with two minutes left. Senior
Michael Stewart (Narbeth, PA) scored three of his four goals within the first quarter and collected six total points.
Lucas Berghahn (Pughkeepsie, NY) was the second four-goal scorer for FDU-Florham on the day with seven points and two ground balls.
Centenary's three goals came from two different players. Jason Toledo collected his goal as well as three ground balls. Ronan Bova netted two goals and added three ground balls to his stats.
The Devils took a 16-2 lead into the break as
Trevor Arnone (Poughkeepsie, NY) recorded his two goals of the day 50 seconds apart, within the last two minutes of the half. Arnone also added eleven groundballs for the Devils.
In the third quarter of action, Berghahn scored two of his four goals and assisted
Robert Nawrocki (Northfield, NJ) for his only goal of the game. The non-conference match up was cut short to three quarters due to lack natural lighting on the field.
The Devils held a 49-10 advantage in shots, a 44-14 margin in ground balls and went a 12-for-15 on the clear. Centenary was successful on eight of 17 attempts in transition.
In net,
Dalton Povilaitis (Jefferson, NJ) and
Matt Reifer (Newtown, PA) split as
Povilaitis started the first and second quarter, while
Reifer protected the goal in the third quarter. Reifer collected one save, but Povilaitis earned the win for the Devils with three stops in the first half.
FDU-Florham will host Drew University for a non-conference contest on Saturday, February 25 at 1:00 pm for its next matchup.
