Fabin Posts Career High in 14-8 Men's Lacrosse Setback to Penn College

Madison, NJ (February 18) – FDU-Florham sophomore Brenden Fabin (Randolph, NJ) scored a career-high five goals this afternoon, but Penn College defeated the Devils by a 14-8 final in non-conference action on Robert T. Shields Field.
 
In addition to his five goals, Fabin tallied three ground balls and three caused turnovers for FDU-Florham (1-1). Brian Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.), Ricky Lewis (Washington, NJ) and Michael Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.) all chipped in with one goal apiece. Defensively, Aidan Bonn (Huntington, NY) and Lucas Berghahn (Poughkeepsie, NY) scooped up four ground balls apiece, while Trevor Arnone (Poughkeepsie, NY) won seven faceoffs on the day.
 
Penn College (1-0) was guided by Sam Hills, who registered five goals and three assists for eight points, while in net James Cella made 18 saves for the Wildcats and held the Devils to just eight goals this afternoon.
 
The visitors scored three goals in the opening quarter and led by a 6-1 tally at halftime. Sam Hills recorded a hat trick in the first half, while FDU-Florham's goal came from B. Stewart off a feed by Ronnie Trisuzzi (Rockaway, NJ).
 
FDU-Florham scored three straight goals including two from Fabin and one from M. Stewart to pull within three goals at 8-5 late in the third, but in the fourth, Penn College registered five straight goals in a span of less than four minutes to balloon its lead to eight at 14-6. Fabin capped his day with back-to-back goals late in regulation, but the contest ended in a 14-8 final.
 
Today marked Fabin's first hat trick of the season and third of his collegiate career.
 
FDU-Florham held a 52-34 advantage in shots, while Penn College held a 40-25 edge in ground balls. The Devils went 15-for-20 on the clear, while Penn was successful on 17-of-25 attempts in transition. Penn College also scored twice on the man-advantage and won 18-of-26 faceoffs today.

FDU-Florham will travel to Centenary University (NJ) on Wednesday, February 22 at 4:00 pm for a non-conference contest with the Cyclones.
