Madison, NJ (February 11) – Senior Michael Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.) scored the game winning goal with 1:50 remaining in regulation to lift the FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team to a thrilling 12-11 win in the 2023 season opener for the Devils. FDU-Florham picked up its first win on opening day since 2014 this afternoon.
 
FDU-Florham (1-0) was guided offensively by Stewart, who tallied four goals and two assists for six points on the day, while Brenden Fabin (Randolph, NJ) registered his first hat trick of the season and third of his career with three goal and an assist today. Fabin defensively added a team-high seven ground balls in the win. Joseph Misurelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) also notched his first collegiate goal.
 
Albright (0-1) received three goals apiece from Jack Burke, Ryan Houghtaling and Jay Shifflet in the setback.
 
After the Lions scored the first two goals of today's contest, over the final 12:44 of the first quarter, FDU-Florham scored six consecutive goals for a 6-2 advantage through 15 minutes of play. Stewart scored three of his four goals on the day over the course of the first quarter run.
 
Albright rallied in the second and took an 8-7 lead into the break following a 7-1 run that spanned just six minutes. Early in the third, Fabin scored back-to-back goals to even the contest up at 9-9, however, the Lions took an 11-9 edge heading into the final quarter.

FDU-Florham took advantage of a pair of man-up situations and knotted the score at 11-11 with back-to-back goals in the fourth as Robert Nawrocki (Northfield, NJ) finished a pass from Nicholas Perillo (Jackson, NJ) and then Perillo finished a pass from Fabin just two minutes later. With 1:50 to play in regulation, Misurelli found Stewart behind the crease as Stewart scored the game winner for the Devils.
 
FDU-Florham held a 55-32 advantage in shots and a 42-37 edge in ground balls. The Devils were successful on 24-of-28 clearing attempts and went 2-for-5 on the man-advantage. At the face-off X, Trevor Arnone (Poughkeepsie, NY) went 13-for-26 for FDU-Florham.

Dalton Povilaitis (Jefferson, NJ) earned the win in cage for the Devils with eight saves, while Ethan Hendershot, who played the second half for Albright stopped the ball seven times in the losing effort.
 
FDU-Florham will welcome Penn College to Madison next Saturday, February 18 for a non-conference contest beginning at 1:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.
