Hoboken, NJ (February 1) – FDU-Florham first-year
Abigail Rodriguez (Woodbridge, NJ) registered a career-high 26 points tonight in a 73-46 setback to 18th ranked (WBCA) Stevens Institute of Technology in Canavan Arena.
Rodriguez led FDU-Florham (0-16, 0-12 MAC Freedom) with 26 points and added five assists as well as three rebounds to her stat line tonight.
Whitney Shyposh (Westfield, NJ) registered ten rebounds and nine points against the Ducks, while
Nour Elsayyid (Dover, NJ) notched eight rebounds and four points.
Stevens (18-3, 11-1 MAC Freedom) was paced by Sophia Bica, who tallied a 14 point, 14 rebound double double. All 12 Ducks registered at least two points tonight for the hosts.
The Ducks scored the first 12 points of tonight's game before Shyposh got FDU-Florham on the board midway through the first. Stevens led 29-6 through one and 41-14 at the break. Both teams scored 32 points over the final 20 minutes of action as Stevens took the game by a 73-46 final.
FDU-Florham converted on seven baskets in the third and seven in the fourth for its 32 points in the half on 14 made baskets, including three from behind the arc.
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 35.7-percent (20-for-56) from the floor, 29.4-percent (5-for-17) from the three point line and 16.7-percent (1-for-6) from the free throw line. The Devils tallied 20 points in the paint and seven points off turnovers.
Stevens shot 35.3-percent (30-for-85) from the floor, 14.3-percent (3-for-21) from behind the arc and 62.5-percent (10-for-16) from the free throw line. The Ducks scored 40 points in the paint, 25 points off turnovers, 59 points off the bench and 25 fast break points.
FDU-Florham will return to Madison and host Wilkes University on Saturday, February 4 at 1:00 pm in the Ferguson Recreation Center.
