Madison, N.J. (December 9) - The FDU-Florham men's basketball (3-6) team was spun up by Centenary (N.J.), 80-67 during their non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
FDU was led by
Michael Dabas (Middletown, NJ), who registered 14 points, followed by
Christopher Smith (Florham Park, NJ), who tallied 12 points. Smith led the team defensively, totaling five rebounds on the night. Centenary had four of their players reach double digit points, being led by Kenneth Rankin with 17 points.
FDU opened with a three-pointer from Dabas that sent the Devils on a 20-15 run in the first half. The run included baskets from
Andrew Piombino Jr. (Rockaway, NJ), Brian Nichols (Roxbury, NJ), Dabas,
Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ), James Zingaro (Stratford, NJ), and Smith. Centenary put an end to that with an 11-2 run to take the lead 26-22 with 5:35 remaining in the half.
Michael Morrissey (Pearl River, NY) soon answered back making a lay up to boost the Devils to go on a 9-4 run that allowed them to take back the lead, 31-30 at the 2:07 timestamp. To end the half, Centenary scored four points that sent them into halftime with a 34-31 advantage.
Both teams went back and forth in the start of the second half, until The Cyclones went on an unanswered nine-point run that made the score 55-42. The Devils put together a 10-4 run at the 12:12 minute mark that included two three-pointers from
Andre Macaranas (Wayne, NJ) but the Cyclones still led the Devils 59-52. Despite the comeback attempt from FDU, Centenary was ultimately able to beat the Devils, 80-67.
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 48.2 percent (27 for 56) from the floor, 28.6 percent (8 for 28) from the three-point range, and 45.5 percent (5 for 11) from the free-throw line. The Devils tallied 38 points in the paint, 25 points off the bench, and 19 points off turnovers.
Centenary shot 47.4 percent (27 for 57) from the floor, 53.3 percent (8 for 15) from the three-point range, and 75 percent (18 for 24) from the free-throw line. They totaled 38 points in the paint, 23 points off the bench, and 23 points off turnovers.
FDU-Florham returns to the court on Saturday, December 30 where they will compete against Bridgewater State University in the Trinity Holiday Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
