Hartford, C.T. (December 30) - The FDU-Florham Men's Basketball (3-7) team fell to Bridgewater State University (4-7), 80-68 while competing in the Trinity Holiday Tournament on Saturday night.
FDU was led by Brian Nichols (Roxbury, NJ), who registered 13 points. Christopher Smith (Florham Park, NJ) led the team defensively, totaling seven rebounds on the night. Bridgewater had two of their players reach double digit points, being led by Emerson Halbleib with 25 points.
Bridgewater opened with a free-throw that allowed them to take the one point lead, but FDU answered back with
James Zingaro (Stratford, NJ) hitting a three pointer that sent the Devils on a 14-7 run that ended at the 11:43 mark The run included baskets from Michael Morrissey (Pearl River, NY), James Zingaro (Stratford, NJ), Michael Dabas (Middletown, NJ), Carson Woods (Phoenix, AZ) and Nichols. Bridgewater quickly put an end to that with an unanswered 12-point run to take the lead 20-14 with 8:29 remaining in the half. FDU went another on a 14-7 run that allowed them to take back the lead, 28-27 at the 3:59 timestamp. To end the half, the Bears put together a 11-4 run that gave them a 38-32 lead heading into halftime.
Bridgewater quickly opened the second half with a 17-7 run that extended their lead over the Devils 55-39. Fairleigh Dickinson put together an 11-6 run that ended at the 5:25 minute mark that included three pointers from
Aidan Laughery (Clark, NJ) and Dabas but Bridgewater still led FDU 68-52. Despite the comeback attempt from FDU, The Bears were ultimately able to beat the Devils, 80-68.
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 34.7 percent (25 for 72) from the floor, 30 percent (9 for 30) from the three-point range, and 69.2 percent (9 for 13) from the free-throw line. The Devils tallied 32 points in the paint, 34 points off the bench, and 14 points off turnovers.
Bridgewater shot 46.3 percent (31 for 67) from the floor, 11.1 percent (2 for 18) from the three-point range, and 59.3 percent (16 for 27) from the free-throw line. They totaled 58 points in the paint, 22 points off the bench, and 18 points off turnovers.
FDU-Florham sees a quick turnaround in the Trinity Holiday Tournament where they will square off with Thomas College on Sunday, December 31 in the tournament's consolation game with tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
