Hartford, C.T. (December 31) - The FDU-Florham Men's Basketball (3-8) team was tripped up by Thomas College (5-7), 71-59 while competing in the Trinity Holiday Tournament on Sunday afternoon. After the tournament concluded,
Micah Moore (West Orange, N.J.) was named to the all-tournament team.
FDU was led by
Moore, who registered 15 points followed by
Carson Woods (Phoenix, AZ) who had 13.
Christopher Smith (Florham Park, NJ) led the team defensively, totaling eight rebounds on the night. Thomas had two of their players reach double digit points, being led by James Phelan with 23 points.
Thomas opened with a layup that allowed them to take the two-point lead, but FDU answered back with
Brian Nichols (Roxbury, NJ) hitting a three pointer that allowed the Devils to take a one-point lead. After a few back-and-forth baskets from both teams, Thomas went on an eight-point unanswered run and extended their lead over FDU, 14-6. The Devils attempted to put an end to that lead at the 12:10 minute mark with a 6-2 run. This run included four points from
Andre Macaranas (Wayne, NJ). Thomas went another run of 10-2 run that allowed them to extend their lead, 25-15 at the 6:40 timestamp. To end the half, the Terriers put together a 16-4 run that gave them a 39-21 advantage heading into halftime.
The Devils opened the second half with a 7-4 run to cut the Terriers lead 43-28 that ended at the 17:37 minute mark. All seven points in this run came from Moore. Later in the half, Fairleigh Dickinson put together an 10-2 run that ended at the 8:25 minute mark, but Thomas still led FDU 55-40. That run included points from
Ethan Klueh (Orlando, FL), Moore, and Smith. Despite the comeback attempts from the Devils, the Terriers were ultimately able to trip up the Devils, 71-59.
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 38.1 percent (24 for 63) from the floor, 20 percent (4 for 20) from the three-point range, and 63.6 percent (7 for 11) from the free-throw line. The Devils tallied 38 points in the paint, 31 points off the bench, and 17 points off turnovers.
Thomas shot 42.3 percent (22 for 52) from the floor, 23.5 percent (4 for 17) from the three-point range, and 76.7 percent (23 for 30) from the free-throw line. They totaled 32 points in the paint, 14 points off the bench, and 19 points off turnovers.
FDU-Florham is set to begin conference play on Wednesday, January 3, where they will be traveling to square off with King's College at 7:00pm.
