Philadelphia, Pa. (December 6) - The FDU-Florham men's basketball went on the road to face Division I University of Pennsylvania in exhibition play and dropped the contest, 111-57 on Wednesday night.
Jamal Santana (Randolph, N.J.) was the lone double-digit point scorer on the night for the Devils with 10 points while also notching three steals and three rebounds.
Brian Nichols (Roxbury, N.J.) totaled eight points on the evening to go along with three rebounds and a steal while
Jack Loucks (Newport Beach, Calif.) led the team in assists with six.
The Quakers were led in scoring by Clark Slajchert who collected 18 points on the night followed closely by Sam Brown, who notched 16.
Satana got the scoring going in the contest with a three-pointer before UPenn went on an 11-2. A pair of layups from
Christopher Smith (Florham Park, N.J.) and a layup from Santana kept the game close with a 11-9 lead for Penn at the 15:28 mark, but the Quakers pulled away again with a 16-4 run that gave them a 27-13 edge with 10:04 remaining in the half.
Michael Dabas (Middletown, N.J.), Andre Macaranas (Wayne, N.J.) and
Michael Morrissey (Pearl River, N.J.) each found their first buckets down the stretch, but Pennsylvania took a comfortable 56-23 lead going into the second half.
The Quakers scored 12 unanswered points out of the gates before a three-pointer by Nichols halted the run and made the score 68-26. After an 80-31 lead, Loucks hit a three-point shot for his first points of the night before a 9-0 run gave Penn a 89-34 advantage.
Ethan Klueh (Orlando, Fla.) found a pair of threes for FDU, but it could not spark a run as UPenn kept the pressure up on the Devils defense and held a 94-40 lead with 8:22 left to go in the game. Santana collected five points and Fairleigh Dickinson also found buckets late from
Jacob Novick-Maxwell (Whitesboro, N.Y.), Aidan Shea (Salt Lake City, Utah), Anthony Dell Unto (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Loucks down the stretch but ultimately fell, 111-57.
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 41.1 percent (23 of 56) from the floor, 30 percent (9 of 30) from the three-point range, and 66.7 percent (2 of 3) from the free-throw line. The Devils tallied 24 points in the paint, 29 points off the bench, and 11 second chance points.
Pennsylvania shot 62.9 percent (39 of 62) from the floor, 61.8 percent (21 of 34) from the three-point range, and 85.7 percent (12 of 14) from the free-throw line. They totaled 36 points in the paint, 63 points off the bench, and 30 points off turnovers.
FDU-Florham returns home to the Ferguson Rec Center and Division III play on Saturday, December 9 as they host Centenary (N.J.) for a 3:00 pm tip off.
