Women's Basketball Perfect in December with 77-63 Win Over Wooster

Madison, NJ (December 19) – With the 2023 calendar year ending, the FDU-Florham women's basketball team hosted The College of Wooster for Tuesday evening non-conference action and claimed a perfect 6-0 record in the month of December with a 77-63 win over the Scots.
 
Overall, the Devils move to a 7-3 record, while Wooster feel to 4-6 on the season.
 
FDU-Florham saw five Devils in double digit scoring figures, but recent MAC Freedom Player of the Week, Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, NJ), led the team with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Christina Centeno (Bayonne, NJ) followed with 16 points and Shannon Tighe (Wayne, NJ) collected her 6th career double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds.
 
Wooster's leading scorer, Alyssa Chritz, found 20 points and 13 rebounds in the non-conference contest.

The first quarter resulted in both teams trading baskets and collecting defensive stops, as the scoreboard read 11-11 with 1:52 remaining. With 45 seconds left, senior Destiny Knight (Philadelphia, PA) knocked down the jumper to give the Devils a two-point lead going into the second quarter, 13-11.

FDU-Florham was able to take a slight lead in the beginning of the second quarter as a three-pointer from Centeno and a layup from Aguilar sparked a 15-4 run by the Devils, 28-17. The Devils saw their largest lead of the quarter with a differential of 15-points, but the Fighting Scots fought back and ended the second with a 11-point gap, 36-25.

Two minutes into the third, Gabrielle Walker (Old Bridge, NJ), gave the Devils their biggest lead of the night with a made three-point field goal to have the score read 44-27.

Wooster found the spark they needed after a fast break jumper and went on a 12-2 run to keep FDU-Florham on their heels for the remaining two and a half minutes of the quarter. Defense prevailed for the Devils as they were able keep a comfortable lead, 54-45, to close out the third quarter.

FDU-Florham kept the fire burning but the Fighting Scots did not stop barking as they cut the score to within six points, 67-61, within the final three minutes of the contest. With the collective scoring effort of Centeno, Walker, and Aguilar the Devils were able to keep the score board in their favor as they won 77-63 over Wooster.

FDU-Florham shot 43.9-percent (29-for-66) from the floor, 30.0-percent (6-for-20) from three point range and 52.0-percent (13-for-25) from the free throw line, while Wooster shot 38.0-percent (27-for-71) from the floor, 16.7-percent (3-for-18) from three point range and 54.5-percent (6-for-11) from the free throw line.

The Devils were able to score 42 points in the paint, 16 second chance points, and 19 points off of Wooster's turnovers.

FDU-Florham will start the new year off with the opening of MAC Freedom play and travel to King's on January 3rd. Wednesday's tip off is set for 5pm.
