Women's Basketball Falls Short Against Saint Elizabeth, 71-69

Morristown, NJ. (November 8) – The FDU-Florham women's basketball team traveled down the street to Saint Elizabeth for their season opening game. The Devils came close but just missed the mark as they fell to the Eagles, 71-69.

FDU-Florham has started their season 0-1 overall, while Saint Elizabeth checked their first win of the season and an 1-0 overall record.

The Devils were led by first year, Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, NJ), who made a high scoring collegiate debut with 30 points and 9 rebounds. Shannon Tighe (Wayne, NJ) added to the box score with her first collegiate double-double of 15 rebounds and 12 points and added six blocks.

Saint Elizabeth's Destiny Battle collected 25 points and 7 rebounds. Yasminah White added her double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds to help secure the 71-69 win.

Saint Elizabeth took control of the court within the first two minutes to go up 7-0. Neysa 's layup and converted baskets helped FDU-Florham to start to chipping away and to close the score to 21-16 at the end of the first quater.

The second half produced the same results as both the Devils and Eagles shot around 35-percent from the field. The Devils went into the half down by just 10 points, 31-41.

A fire was burning bright for the Devils in the third quarter, when Carla Seyfarth ( South Brunswick, NJ) sank two baskets from the charity line to spark a 11-0 run from behind, to own their first lead of the game.

Both teams traded baskets throughout the fourth quarter, but it was the Eagles who pulled away by making two free-throws in the final five seconds, to put the game out of reach for Devils.

FDU-Florham shot 33.8-percent (25-for-74) from the floor, 25.0-percent (5-for-20) from three point range and 43.8-percent (14-for-32) from the free throw line, while Saint Elizabeth shot 28.3-percent (26-for-92) from the floor, 21.7-percent (5-for-23) from three point range and 56.0-percent (14-for-25) from the free throw line.

Saint Elizabeth scored 14 points in the paint, 12 points off FDU-Florham turnovers and 21 second chance points.
