Women's Basketball Snaps Losing Streak with 94-71 Win Over CCNY

New York, NY. (November 14) – The FDU-Florham women's basketball team snapped a 27-game losing streak, over a two-season period, with a 94-71 non-conference win over CCNY. Head coach Van Johnson also collected his first win as a Devils head coach.

FDU-Florham settled with a 1-1 overall record after today's non-conference win, while CCNY's loss to made their overall record 1-1.  

Helping secure the win for the Devils was first year Shannon Tighe (Wayne, NJ) as she collected her second career double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds. Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, NJ) contributed to the score with another 20 plus point game of 22 points, making her the team's leading scorer in tonight's contest.
 
CCNY's Anais Rosa dropped 32 points and 7 rebounds to help close the scoring gap but was not able to out-score the Devils.
 
FDU-Florham started with a strong lead as the Devils went on a 6-0 scoring run within the first two minutes of action. CCNY was able to knock down shots as they came within a point midway through the first quarter.

Two minutes into the second quarter, CCNY was in reach of their first led when a free throw by Beaver, Ashley Colon, made it a tie the game at 19-19. Another spark was seen under the Devils fire as a three pointer by Kira Murray (Northfield, NJ) ignited another scoring drive to push the Devils ahead 46-39 before the half.

The Devils kept the pace up against CCNY as the closest they came within he Devils score was a difference of nine points. Free throws were also critical to help keep the lead as the Devils went 75.0-percent (12-16) from the line in the third quarter.

CCNY was unable to come within reach, as the lead extended to a season high difference of 25 points. Gabrielle Walker ( Old Bridge, NJ) helped the Devils close out the 94-71 non-conference win with five of her thirteen points being scored within the last five minutes the game.

Overall, FDU-Florham shot 34.5-percent (30-for-87) from the floor, 47.8-percent (11-for-23) from three point range and 74.2-percent (23-for-31) from the free throw line, while CCNY shot 41.7-percent (20-for-48) from the floor, 20.0-percent (3-for-15) from three point range and 70.0-percent (28-for-40) from the free throw line.

CCNY scored 32 points in the paint, 23 points off FDU-Florham turnovers but only 8 second chance points.
 
FDU-Florham will travel up to Boston, MA. for the Emmanuel Tip-off Tournament starting on Saturday, November 18. The Devils first game of the weekend will be against non-conference Ithaca, at 1pm on Saturday.
