Offensive Output Helps Men’s Basketball Defeat Medgar Evers, 97-82

Brooklyn, N.Y. (November 28) - The FDU-Florham men's basketball (3-4) posted its highest point total of the season as they went on the road and defeated Medgar Evers (2-4), 97-82 on Tuesday night.
 
Carson Woods (Phoenix, Ariz.) led the way for the Devils with 23 points and 12 rebounds, both statistical bests for FDU on the night. He also collected three assists, two steals and a block. Christopher Smith (Florham Park, N.J.) also recorded a double-double on the night with 16 points and 11 rebounds. James Zingaro (Stratford, N.J.) got himself in the double-digit scoring range with 14 points and a team-high six assists and was followed closely in scoring by Jamal Santana (Randolph, N.J.) who tallied 13 points to go along with three assists.
 
The Cougars also saw four of their student-athletes score double-digit points including Nicholas Guillen who put in 22 points and Andre Evans Jr. who scored 21 points.
 
It was a back-and-forth start to the first half with both teams deadlocked at 14-14 at the 13:11 timestamp before a three-pointer from Andre Macaranas (Wayne, N.J.) helped spark a 13-2 run for the Devils that helped them jump out to a 27-16 lead. During that run, the FDU offense saw buckets from Smith, Thomas Woods (Clark, N.J.), Santana and Andrew Piombino Jr. (Rockaway, N.J.). Fairleigh Dickinson was able to keep a comfortable lead down the stretch in the first half with Michael Dabas (Middletown, N.J.) and Brian Nichols (Roxbury, N.J.) getting in on the first half scoring to help give FDU-Florham a 41-28 lead heading into the second half.
 
Zingaro opened up the scoring in the second half with a layup before Medgar Evers cut the lead to seven on a jump shot from Evans Jr. and two three-pointers from Guillen to make the score, 43-36. With a score of 57-50 FDU at the 13:37 mark, the Devils put together a 11-4 run that included baskets from Smith, C. Woods, T. Woods, Santana and Zingaro to give FDU-Florham a 68-54 lead with 9:36 left remaining in the half. Despite a lot of points being scored down the stretch by both teams, The Devils never lost the double-digit advantage and eventually took the 97-82 victory.
 
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 49.2 percent (31 of 63) from the floor, 41.7 percent (5 of 12) from the three-point range, and 65.2 percent (30 of 46) from the free-throw line. The Devils tallied 50 points in the paint, 22 points off the bench, and 13 second chance points.
 
Medgar Evers shot 37.2 percent (29 of 72) from the floor, 26.3 percent (5 of 19) from the three-point range, and 70.4 percent (16 of 23) from the free-throw line. They totaled 38 points in the paint, 30 points off the bench, and 15 points off turnovers.
 
FDU-Florham competes next in the MAC Crossover Challenge as they face the MAC Commonwealth's Albright College in Reading, Pa. on Saturday, December 2 at 3:00 pm.
