Men’s Basketball Drops Home Opener to Rutgers-Newark, 63-46

Madison, NJ (November 15) – The FDU- Florham Men's Basketball team held their home opener on Wednesday, but ultimately lost to Rutgers-Newark, 63-46.
 
The Devils were led by Carson Woods (Phoenix, AZ) and Michael Morrissey (Pearl River, NY) who both registered a total of eight points. Woods also led the team defensively, totaling ten rebounds on the night. The Scarlet Raiders had three of their players reach double digit points, being led by Pascal Dodard with 14 points.
 
Rutgers-Newark jumped out to a 12-0 that went until the 15-minute mark. The Devils halted that run with Morrissey scoring a free-throw and Joseph Carney (Garwood, NJ) collecting a layup. The Devils proceeded to go on a 7-3 run in attempt to catch up to Rutgers-Newark, making the score 17-13. This run included baskets from Michael Dabas (Middletown, NJ), James Zingaro (Stratford, NJ), and Andre Macaranas (Wayne, NJ). After a trio of back-to-back three-pointers from Rutgers, Rutgers-Newark extended their lead to 26-13. The Devils then proceeded to go on a 9-4 run, but the first half still ended with the Scarlet-Raiders leading, 33-22.
 
FDU opened the second half with a successful layup from Woods, making the score 33-24. However, both teams went back and forth, with Rutgers-Newark creating a went on to a 12-4 run that started at the 15:19 timestamp. This run made the score 50-34. That run was halted when Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ) nailed a lay-up that was followed up by a three-pointer from Macaranas, making the score 50-39. The Scarlet Raiders were able to keep momentum though and ultimately went on to defeat the Devils 63-46
 
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 35.2 percent (23 for 58) from the floor, 14.3 percent (2 for 14) from the three-point range, and 35.3 percent (6 for 17) from the free-throw line. The Devils tallied 34 points in the paint, 28 points off the bench, and 10 points off turnovers.
 
Rutgers-Newark shot 39.7 percent (23 for 58) from the floor, 44.4 percent (8 for 18) from the three-point range, and 40.9 percent (9 for 22) from the free-throw line. They totaled 24 points in the paint, 19 points off the bench, and 29 points off turnovers.
 
FDU-Florham returns to the court on Friday, November 17h when they host the first day of the Rose City Classic. They will square off against Pratt Institute at the Ferguson Recreation Center with tip off set to start at 6:00pm.
