Scranton, PA (November 11) - The FDU-Florham men's basketball (1-2) team was led by
Brian Nichols (Roxbury, NJ), who registered 26 points to help the Devils win their first game of the season and the get Head Coach Keith Hack his first win at the helm in FDU-Florham as they beat Marywood, 81-71 in the Hilton Scranton Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Devil's win was also accredited to the play of
Carson Woods (Phoenix, AZ), who tallied 15 points to follow Nichols. Woods and
Andrew Piombino Jr. (Rockaway, NJ) led the team defensively, totaling seven rebounds on the night. Marywood had three of their players reach double digit points, being led by Brendan Franko with fifteen points.
After a back-and-forth battle, FDU jumped to a 25-19 lead before a during a nine-point run for FDU that included baskets from Nichols, Woods, and a three-pointer and layup from
Christopher Smith (Florham Park, NJ). For the remainder of the first half, the Devils kept their lead with baskets from
Michael Morrissey (Pearl River, NY), Woods, and three pointers from
Joseph Carney (Garwood, NJ) and Nichols. The score at the end of the half was 40-30.
FDU opened the second half with a successful three pointer from Nichols off a defensive rebound from Woods. The Devils then went on to a 9-2 run with baskets from Woods, Nichols, Piombino, and a three-pointer from
Michael Dabas (Middletown, NJ). This run made the score 53-35, but FDU did not stop there. The Devils went on a 11-6 run late in the second half to make the score 73-60. During that run five of those points were scored by Woods. Despite the comeback attempt from Marywood in the second half, the Devils were able to bring home their first win with a final score of 81-71.
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 51.6 percent (32 for 62) from the floor, 66.7 percent (12 for 18) from the three-point range, and 55.6 percent (5 for 9) from the free-throw line. The Devils tallied 40 points in the paint, 20 points off the bench, and 13 points off turnovers.
Marywood shot 40 percent (22 for 55) from the floor, 37.5 percent (9 for 24) from the three-point range, and 66.67 percent (18 for 25) from the free-throw line. They totaled 22 points in the paint, 20 points off the bench, and 19 points off turnovers.
FDU-Florham opens up their home schedule on Wednesday November 15 where they will compete against Rutgers - Newark. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
