Volleyball Caps Off Regular Season With 3-1 Win at King’s

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (November 1) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team (14-13,1-6 MAC Free) capped off their 2023 regular season with a 3-1 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom win at King's, 3-1 on Wednesday night.

Arianna Wood (Wayne, N.J.), Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif) and Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, N.J.) each posted double-digit kills on the night. Wood led the way with 12 followed closely by Reiter with 11 and Hart with 10. Hart also led the team in blocks tonight with 4. Victoria Carrico (Mountainside, N.J.) tallied 24 assists followed by Gianna Buscarino (Centereach, N.Y.) who collected 18. Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, N.J.) was a force on defense for FDU, amassing 31 digs followed by Wood with 12.

Set 1: It was a back-and-forth beginning to the contest that saw five lead changes early. The Devils jumped out to 13-9 lead before the Monarchs strung together seven straight points to take a 16-13 advantage. FDU swung the momentum back though with a 7-1 run that included kills from Hart and Wood as well as a service ace from Fruscione to regain the lead, 20-17. The two teams exchanged points up to a 22-18 Fairleigh Dickinson lead when three unanswered by King's tied the match 22-22. A kill and a service ace by Reiter put FDU in a great position where after King's collected a kill from Emma Bolich, Lilli Nawrotzki (Flemington, N.J.) ended the set with a kill and a 25-23 set one win for the Devils.

Set 2: FDU jumped out to a 4-2 lead that included a service ace from Carrico and a kill from Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, N.J.), but King's after five unanswered points for a 7-4 edge. The Devils were never able to generate a good run as the Monarch's kept them at a comfortable distance. It was not until a 22-15 lead for King's when Fairleigh Dickinson with five unanswered points that included a kill by Hart to cut the deficit to 22-20. After a kill from Lindsay Arenzina, the Devils scored a pair of points to come within one point, but the Monarchs closed the set out with a duo of points to take set two, 25-22.

Set 3: King's jumped out 2-1 over FDU, but the Devils went on a 6-1 run that included two kills from Wood, two kills from Jada Everett (Hackensack, N.J.) and a service ace from Fruscione and held a 7-3 edge. The Devils were able to keep the Monarchs at bay the rest of the way. The closest King's got was when they scored a trio of points in a row to cut the deficit to 20-16 before Fairleigh Dickinson found five straight points including four kills, one each from Nawrotzki, Hart, Everett and Freeman who hammered down the set sealing kill to take set three for FDU, 25-16. As a unit, FDU scored 20 kills in the set.

Set 4: The set was tied 2-2 before six unanswered points for the Monarchs gave them an 8-2 advantage. The Devils notched four straight points with two kills from Reiter to chew into the lead, 8-6. King's was able to hold off FDU until their 13-10 advantage where five unanswered points flipped the lead, 15-13 Devils. They held the lead up to a 22-19 score mark, King's scored four unanswered to take the lead back 23-22. Two attack errors gave the lead back to FDU but a kill from Joy Kindall evened the score 24-24 heading into extra points. A service error swung the momentum back to the Devils and Wood finished off the set with a kill and gave the Devils the 26-24 set four win and sealed the league win for FDU-Florham.
