Volleyball Takes Care of CCNY, 3-0

Madison, NJ (October 12) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team (11-10) took care of business on Roger Kindel Court as the Devils defeated the CCNY Beavers (6-8), 3-0 on Thursday night.

Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) posted double-digit kills for the sixth time this season as she knocked down 12 tonight. Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) posted her fifth 20+ dig performance of the season as she collected 21 as well as a team-high five service aces. Gianna Buscarino (Centereach, NY) recorded 18 assists and eight digs while Victoria Carrico (Mountainside, NJ) collected 11 to go along with three service aces.

Set 1: FDU-Florham dominated the first set of play. The Devils scored five unanswered points that included four kills, two kills from Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif) and then kills from Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, NJ) and Lilli Nawrotzki (Flemington, NJ). After an attack error gave the Beavers a point, the Devils scored another five unanswered to take a 10-1 advantage. A kill from CCNY gave them another point, but the Devils put together a 9-1 run to make the score 19-3. That run included two kills from Freeman and kills from Hart, Arianna Wood (Wayne, NJ) and Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ). The Beavers did not let up any other big runs but were not able to find much more scoring wise and the Devils took set one, 25-6.

Set 2: FDU jumped out to another big lead in the beginning of the set. That run included kills from Wood and Nawrotzki as well as a service ace from Fruscione and gave the Devils a 9-2 edge. CCNY cut into that lead with three points of there own and kept the set close in the middle. The Beavers inched themselves up to a 15-13 deficit before FDU started to pull away. They scored four straight including two service aces from Fruscione and a kill from Nawrtozki. After finding a pair of points, Fairleigh Dickinson closed out the set with a 6-1 run that included four kills from Hart to win set two, 25-16.

Set 3: Once again in the Devils who controlled the early portion of the set, jumping out to leads of 4-0, 10-2 and 14-3. Their big run included four kills from Freeman, three kills from Hart and service aces from Fruscione and Carrico. CCNY tried to climb back, but FDU kept its distance and climbed to a 20-9 lead. The Beavers went on a short 4-1 run before a service error and a service ace from Carrico set the Fairleigh Dickinson up with a comfortable, 23-13 advantage. The Beavers put the pressure on the Devils late however as they scored seven unanswered to chip into the lead, 23-20. A kill from Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ) set the Devils up for a match point. The Beavers pushed hard for extra points with three straight points for a 24-23 score, but a service error crushed them and gave FDU the sweep.  

FDU-Florham heads out for their final tri-match of the season on Saturday, October 14. They first square off with host William Paterson at 11:00 am before a quick turnaround with Baruch at 1:00 pm.
