Rodriguez Leads Field Hockey to Overtime Win Against King’s, 4-3

Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 11)
In a MAC Freedom contest that turned into a double overtime thriller, Dominique Rodriguez (Pittsgrove, NJ) knocked in the game-winner for the FDU-Florham Field Hockey as they were victorious on the road at King's, 4-3 on Wednesday night.

FDU-Florham took the early lead at the 3:44 mark after a save rebounded off King's goalie, Grace Venis and Rodriguez was able to find the ball and put it into the back of the cage, making the score 1-0. King's quickly tied the score at the 5:00 timestamp, 1-1, when Ashley Thalassinos sent the ball down the middle to Shaylee Heffron who fired in the shot.
 
During the second period at the 27:25 mark, off a penalty corner from Megan Surgent (Wall, NJ), Allie Serio (Scotch Plains, NJ) was able to find the back of the cage, allowing the Devils to take back the lead, 2-1. The Monarchs answered back a few minutes later with a goal from Emma Clark, tying the game 2-2
 
King's took the 3-2 lead at the 36-minute mark when Emma Bealla assisted a goal to Hannah Chocallo.
 
The Devils outshot the Monarchs in the fourth period, 4-2, and were eventually able to capitalize when Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) notched her fifth goal of the season. At the 50-minute mark, Morgan Keller (Toms River, NJ) passed the ball to Medina at the top of the arc, who fired a shot passed the goalie tying the game 3-3.
 
During the second overtime period, off another penalty corner from Surgent, Rodriguez was able to seal the Conference win for the Devils off a pass from Keller for the 4-3 final.
 
Goalkeeper Emily Schlessinger (Asbury, NJ) faced a total of five shots during the contest and saved two of them.
 
FDU-Florham will be traveling to compete against Delaware Valley University for their next MAC Freedom Conference matchup. The contest will be held on Friday, October 13th, in Doylestown, PA at 7:00 pm.
