Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (October 1) – The FDU-Florham women's tennis team competed on Sunday in the King's College Invitational for their first tournament of the season. The format was a round robin between the Devils, King's and Scranton.
Rachel Kappelmier (Freehold, NJ) represented the Devils in the #1 singles role. She was defeated in both her matchups, losing to Daniella Wisnewski from Scranton (6-0, 6-1) and Ashley Kenia from King's (6-1, 6-3).
Ella Olsen was defeated in her singles #2 matchups with Bridgid O'Mara from Scranton (6-2, 6-4) and Hailey D'Amato from King's (6-2, 6-1). In singles #3,
Ashley Gaetani (Ridgefield Park, NJ) lost her first matchup to Scranton's Olivia Siraco, 6-0, 6-1 but bounced back and won against Jackie Costello from King's, 6-2, 6-3.
Olsen and Kappelmier teamed up in the doubles #1 portion. They were beaten in both matchups against Scranton's duo of Rielly and Wisnewski, 8-4 and then dropped their next matchup to the King's tag team of Kenia and D'Amato, 8-3. Gaetani paired up with
Paula Vanegas (Union City, NJ) in doubles #2.
They were defeated by the Scranton team of O'Mara and McNulty, 5-2 but bounced back for a win against the King's duo of Costello and Dellose, 8-7 (5).
