Men's Basketball Holds Off Misericordia, 67-60

Madison, NJ (January 14) – The FDU-Florham men's basketball team picked up their second conference win of the season this afternoon with a 67-60 victory over Misericordia University.

FDU-Florham (3-13, 2-5 MAC Freedom) was paced by Carson Woods (Phoenix, Ariz.), who posted 18 points, second boards, two assists and a pair of steals. In his return to the lineup, Matthew Johnson (Oak Ridge, NJ) tallied 13 points and four rebounds, while Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ) tallied ten points, six rebounds and two assists. Misericordia (8-7, 3-4 MAC Freedom) saw both Nate Kreitzer and RJ Weise scored ten points apiece.
 
FDU-Florham jumped out to a 22-8 advantage over the opening 12 minutes of the game and took an eventual 35-14 lead into the halftime break. Over the first 20 minutes of play, Johnson tallied 11 points and the Devils shot at a 43-percent clip from the floor. As a team, FDU-Florham's defense held Misericordia to just four made field goals in the first and forced eight turnovers by the Cougars.
 
Seven of eight FDU-Florham student-athletes posted at least two points in the first half of today's MAC Freedom contest, while six of eight tallied three or more boards in the stanza.
 
Misericordia trailed by 19 points early in the second and ripped off an 11-0, which featured three shots behind the arc to cut its deficit to just eight (45-37) with ten minutes to play. Five minutes later, three point buckets by Derek Smith, Kreitzer and Weise in addition to a layup by Joseph Baldachino made it a one possession game with 3:32 remaining.
 
With under a minute left on the clock, Nichols forced a steal and Michael Dabas (Middletown, NJ) finished the play before Woods knocked down four straight shots from the free throw line to account for the 67-60 final.
 
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 41.8-percent (23-for-55) from the floor, 25.0-percent (6-for-24) from behind the arc and 83.3-percent (15-for-18) from the free throw line. The Devils scored 30 points in the paint, 13 points off turnovers and 19 points off the bench.
 
Misericordia shot 33.9-percent (20-for-59) from the floor, 30.0-percent (9-for-30) from three point range and 68.8-percent (11-for-16) from the free throw line. The Cougars scored 22 points in the paint, 25 points off the bench and 13 second chance points.
 
FDU-Florham will return to action on Wednesday, January 18 at 6:00 pm with a road MAC Freedom matchup at Delaware Valley University.
