Madison, NJ (September 7) – The FDU-Florham opened Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play with a 3-0 setback to Arcadia University by set scores of 25-13, 25-18, 25-15 on Wednesday evening inside the Ferguson Recreation Center.
Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ) led the way for the Devils with nine kills on the night alongside 12 digs.
Kacie Ros (Bridgewater, NJ) posted a double-double with 15 assists and 11 digs, while
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) ended the night with a team-high 19 digs and a trio of kills.
Set 1: Arcadia jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the opening set and never relinquished the advantage en route to a 25-13 victory. FDU-Florham was able to pull within as few as five points at 16-11 following an error by the visitors, but Arcadia put together an 8-1 run to cap the set.
Set 2: A kill from
Ellyn Pope (Collingswood, NJ) on the first point of the second set gave FDU-Florham its first lead of the match. The Devils strung together a run of 11-3 for a 12-6 advantage in the second thanks to four kills from DeFuria and a trio of blocks. Arcadia climbed back into the set and trailed by just three at 18-15 before the Knights scored ten straight points to end the set for a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3: FDU-Florham trailed 10-5 in the third before six straight points gave the Devils an 11-10 edge that was capped on a service ace by
Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ). Arcadia tied the match at 13-13 and outscored FDU-Florham 12-2 down the stretch to secure the set 25-15 and the sweep in the MAC Freedom opener for both squads.
FDU-Florham will host Stockton University in non-conference action on Friday, September 9 at 4:00 pm inside the Ferguson Recreation Center.
FDU-Florham is currently running a campaign in honor of former Devils men's basketball head coach, men's golf coach and athletic director Roger Kindel.
