Grey Makes Career-High 15 Saves in Men's Soccer Setback to New Paltz

Madison, NJ (September 4) – Two goals in a span of less than two minutes in the second half were the difference today as the New Paltz men's soccer team defeated FDU-Florham, 2-0, on day two of the 2022 Drew/FDU Fall Festival Tournament.

New Paltz peppered FDU-Florham keeper Tiernan Grey (Staten Island, NY) with a number of shots over the first ten minutes of the second half and found the back of the net in the 55th minute for a 1-0 edge. Papis Konate took a shot that was saved by Grey, but Gabriel Cruz was on the doorstep ready for the rebound for his second goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later, Philip Varner drove the ball through the FDU-Florham defense and registered New Paltz's second goal of the game and his first of the season.

In the first half, FDU-Florham was only able to get two shots away towards the net. In the tenth minute, Yariel Parapi (North Bergen, NJ) blasted a chance through the football uprights and in the 37th minute, Mateo Ladino (Montville, NJ) attempted a bicycle kick but it was stopped by New Paltz keeper Christian Micheli.

Grey ended the day with a career-high 15 saves for the Devils topping his old career-high mark of 12 that he set last season against Stevens. Grey's 15 saves came just three shy of tying the single game program record from the 2010 campaign.

FDU-Florham will return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 7 against CCNY at 7:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.

FDU-Florham is currently running a campaign in honor of former Devils men's basketball head coach, men's golf coach and athletic director Roger Kindel.

All donations will go directly towards funding a complete renovation of the basketball and volleyball court inside the Ferguson Recreation Center with his name dawned on both sides.
