Union, NJ (September 30) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team fell to Kean University in straight sets by scores of 25-11, 25-18, 25-23 in non-conference action this afternoon.
Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ) and
Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ) led the way for the Devils offensively with eight kills apiece, while
Emma Laramee (Williamstown, NJ) and
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) both posted 12 digs apiece on the defensive side of the ball for FDU-Florham. Kean was guided by an 11 kill performance from Morgan Hall and a game-high 20 digs from Sian Seeger.
Set 1: FDU-Florham scored the first two points of the match on a kill by DeFuria and a Kean error, however, the host Cougars answered with a 12-2 run for a 12-4 lead midway through the stanza. Kean, which hit .448 in the first, led by as many as 14 points and won the opening set by a 25-11 final for the 1-0 lead in the match.
Set 2: Kean jumped out to a 14-6 advantage in set two and never relinquished its lead as the Cougars won it by a 25-18 score. Late in the set, FDU-Florham was able to put together a 6-2 run of its own on a pair of blocks, two errors and kills from both DeFuria and Everett, but it was too late in the set to mount the comeback.
Set 3: The third set was tightly contested and featured nine ties with the last one coming at 22-22. FDU-Florham had taken its first lead since the first set on a swing by Everett for a 15-14 edge, but a 4-1 set ending run by Kean ended the stanza 25-23 and the match in straight sets.
FDU-Florham will head to William Paterson University tomorrow for a tri-match with the host Pioneers and the College of Mount Saint Vincent beginning at 1:00 pm. There will be no live video for the two matches, but fans can follow along with live stats all day on fdudevils.com.
