Wayne, NJ (October 1) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team split its non-conference tri-match this afternoon on the road at William Paterson University. The Devils opened the day with a three-set sweep of the College of Mount Saint Vincent (25-17, 25-20, 25-21), but fell in game two to the host Pioneers by scores of 25-6, 25-17, 25-10.
FDU-Florham now sits at 4-8 overall on the season and will return to play on Wednesday, October 5 with a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) matchup at Delaware Valley University at 7:00 pm.
FDU-Florham 3, Mount Saint Vincent 0
In the first set, Mount Saint Vincent held a 17-16 edge before FDU-Florham ripped off nine straight points to win the stanza, 25-17. In the set ending run, first-year
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) tallied a pair of kills, while
Emma Laramee (Williamstown, NJ) recorded an ace.
Tied at 12-12 in the second, the Devils went on a 6-2 run to give them an 18-14 edge. The spurt saw three different student-athletes produce kills and an ace by
Kacie Ros (Bridgewater, NJ). That run was enough as a kill by Hart and an error by Mount Saint Vincent gave FDU-Florham the second set, 25-20.
The third set was knotted at 20-20, before FDU-Florham produced a 5-1 set and match ending run. The run was sparked by a pair of kills from
Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ).
DeFuria and Hart both registered a match-high nine kills, while five Devils tallied double-digit digs including DeFuria (12),
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) (12), Ros (11),
Kiara Salme (Lyndhurst, NJ) (10) and Laramee (10).
William Paterson 3, FDU-Florham 0
In set one, William Paterson led 4-3 before the hosts ended the set on a 21-3 run. The pioneers hit .417 in the opening set (11-1-24). The second set was knotted at 5-5 before William Paterson went on a 9-2 run to pull away 14-7 and win the set by an eventual 25-17 score.
In set three, FDU-Florham cut its deficit to just four at 11-7, before William Paterson ended the set and the match on a 14-3 run to win it 25-10 and the match 3-0.
